Do you still think people will be nicer in the new world.

  I recall talk of how people where going to come out of this with a more positive and caring outlook about the world.Judging by recent events, I would say nothing has changed,in fact people are angrier, more  frustrated, selfish and more interested in getting drunk and having a good time.It saddens me to watch our society slowly crumbling away.Not a good picture going into a decade of economical uncertainties. I worry about some of  our younger generation who this will impact the most in the future as they seem more concerned about the  next pi$$ up or rave.Let us hope for a strong trustworthy leader to guide us through the difficult times ahead. Hope this week is better than last week!

It would be comforting to think so ,James, and certainly something to be desired. I’m slightly pessimistic in as much as the country was very divided before the pandemic and the management of the disaster seems to continue that divide. Thinking back to 2012 and the positive atmosphere in that Olympic summer, it all  seems a long way off.

James, in life there are usually 4 or 5 close friends you could trust with your life, the rest would stab you in the back.  Cannot see anything improving.

I hope people won’t forget how many of us are pulling together to shop, chat and check in on our neighbours. I now know a few more neighbours personally, so that’s a very happy outcome.I really hope this doesn’t change. I haven’t seen my family since lockdown, but my lovely neighbours have helped with the loneliness and sheer boredom.

I was a relatively relaxed person in the old world, doing my bit for society but I am wide awake about the new world which some have not woken up to. My outlook has changed, my family is no1 with an uncertain future. I know charities will be more in need but I am selfishly putting my family first. So I am guilty of being selfish and probably be accused of being uncaring but I am being realistic.  Without wanting to drag the mood down, the new world is not looking great and i think we will see more anger on our streets as the days of a stable economy has ended made worse by our leaving the EU. For now our great leader is doing what keeps the masses happy, booze, holidays,shopping and football but when they realise that their jobs are either no longer there and finding another one easily, that’s when it will get ugly. Enjoy the calm while it lasts. Sorry about such negativity first thing on a Sunday but just smelling the coffee. Happy Father’s Day all dads out there.

James, when you talk about your family I wonder how much of your family you mean? Do you include your wider family or do you just mean your 'nuclear' family?  (You don't have to answer.)  So many families now are separated by distance and work commitments - real or perceived - creating worries and travel difficulties and costs separating them.  The superficiality of some things becomes glaringly clear.  There is enjoyment to be had relaxing and catching up with friends and family and being able to just stop and notice and value the natural world around you rather than exhausting yourself just getting away and holidaying so hard in any 'spare' time that you need more time to relax and catch up at home when you get back.  Have you seen the film Avalon referred to in this interesting article?https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2020/03/the-nuclear-family-was-a-mistake/605536/

I don’t know about the world, but I can see Chiswick changing for the worst.Watch out for the left wing groups putting themselves up in the local elections against the Torys.They are on a high after recent events in Chiswick, but they may just end up with egg on the faces yet..I have know axe to grind, as I haven’t been supporting the local Chiswick traders on the High Road for years, they just don’t sell the type of goods I want, or if they do, its double the price of retailers elsewhere.
