"But they do require to look at themselves, at the black on black gang culture"Jesus wept!  Racism exemplified. So you think that every black citizen of this country is personally responsible for the problems with black gangs? Then (on the assumption you are white - which in the circumstances seems a reasonable assumption) by your own logic, you had better take personal reasonsibility and go and sort out the white thugs attacking the police in Whitehall today.Or does collective responsibility based on skin colour only apply to non-whites?And to say "Black people in the UK now are not living as slaves" totally misses the point.  The attitudes developed in the colonial era (i.e. the denegration of African and Asian people, to present them as inferior savages) in order to justify slavery and the pillaging of other nations continues today in the prejudice (and sometimes oppression) still sufffered by many black people in our society. And that's exactly why the statue of Colston was pulled down and thrown into the dock - to protest against the perpetuation of those racist attitudes today.  It has nothing to do (as presented) with denying history. Quite the opposite.  How many more people know about the barbarism of the Atlantic slave trade today then did, say, a week ago?The statues celebrating Colston (and his like) are iconographic of the racist attitudes that still prevail in our society. And the fact that the ancient Romans made slaves of, say, some of the ancient Britons is neither here nor there.  If you disagree - please show me someone living in our society today who is suffering from the supremacist attitudes of the Romans over other people.
