Thank you all for your responses, I am Beverley's husband. To be clear on what exactly happened as this issue has split opinions. The cyclist in question was trying to squeeze between the section of road in-front of us as we were nearly leaving the road onto the pavement on a green man. The only reason I managed to push him was simply from reaching forwards, a distance of no more than 75cm, had I not done this he would have passed me and into the direction of my children, my intention was never to push him off his bike, but I believe due in part due to his speed, he did indeed fall to the pavement area, at no time was he at risk of falling into any oncoming traffic, on these lights when the green man is present all traffic in all directions stops. In relation to the question of him hitting me infront of my children, this was his choice, I did not fight back, once my children were in a safe area on the pavement I simply walked towards him to point out that he had put my children at extreme risk by his illegal actions, at which point he said he had seen them and was swerving to avoid them, in my opinion stopping would have been more appropriate.I had no intention of harming anyone while crossing the road and at no point saw red, my actions and response were all calm and controlled, but due to someone else's illegal activity I found my self in the position where I had to protect my children. In addition to this, from his manner, actions and also the smell of beer when I was close to him, he had been drinking, it was late in the afternoon on one of the sunny days we experienced. This whole situation is ugly and regrettable, just wish I had managed to take a picture of him to pass onto the police.Gary.
