Reporting someone who fails to quarantine

Don’t think it’s possible.  A couple have returned back from France to move in with highly vulnerable elderly person who has been shielding with live in carer since lockdown.  Turned up unnannounced. Plan to stay several months. No quarantine. They drove.  They also plan to visit grandchildren in another part of country. The rest of the family are so angry. All their efforts have been undone. None of the rest of the family has visited in the entire time. Irresponsible. I think it’s time to name and shame and report people rather than track and trace.

It’s not down to me.  I am a friend of the family.Just wondered if there was a system for reporting people. I rally just wanted to know if there is a reporting system in place.

The R rate in France is much lower than here. The 14 day Quarantine period is absolutely a waste of timoand unenforceable.

If you are planning to report someone who you think is in breach of The Health Protection (Coronavirus, International Travel) (England) Regulations 2020, you should be aware that this legislation is not yet in force.It comes into force on Mon 8th June.I don't believe that it applies retrospectively.

The fact they have already arrived and taken up residence in your friends house is probably a bit late to do anything.  But you say they are planning on visiting grandchildren in other parts of the country.  Surely they can say no to any visits and if they turn up unannounced just don't let them in.....unless they are happy to do so.

You appear to know the family and are aware of their intended travel plans. It is difficult but perhaps a conversation with them could either allay some of your fears or prick their conscience. It is especially difficult now against the background of people getting away with flagrant breaking of the lockdown rules. I was aware of friends, colleagues and neighbours having a very loose interpretation of the ‘instructions’ I didn’t challenge them. Perhaps I ought to have done.
