Corney Reach jogger

To the man jogging mid morning today and barking at people to walk 'single file' even though we (& others) were - there are ways and means of making a request.Your swearing, foaming at the mouth and about to burst a blood vessel appearance could all be lessened with a simple change of approach. I'm unsure if your behaviour is related to your obvious support of West Ham. If so, your short fuse can be understood, albeit not excused.In the meantime it's perhaps advisable to modify your behaviour before a less generous personality takes a greater degree of Umbridge, after all I note that your speed seemed to increase when I stopped to have a social distancing chat with you about it...

Think it is a West Ham thing. They are going down if the Premier League season is completed. Perhaps the best option would have been to have pushed him into the river — he would have thanked you in the end.

Most of them don't seem able to stop - they just keep on jogging straight at you - except the lady who jogged on the spot so we could get through a park gate first.  Why can't more joggers jog on the spot?

I disagree.I find that most joggers extremely courteous and jog on spot to let me pass in narrow routes or make an effort to stay clear.There are a few morons but I see a lot more discourteous pedestrians - walking in groups taking up the whole path, walking in the middle of the path, and sometimes almost deliberately getting in the way of cyclists or joggers. I think some pedestrians feel that they have ultimate right of way in all circumstances.I'm not a jogger and only an occassional cyclist but I will always step back to let them past as I think, on a shared use path, we should use common sense and politeness.

If they're coming towards you (cycling or jogging), you can usually take avoiding action if necessary; it's the ones who hurtle past you from behind, with inches to spare, who create resentment and anger.

Well we go into single file at the edge of the pavement as they approach or cross the road but they often just keep straight on right in the middle of the pavement.  Yes, I hate the ones that hurtle past from behind as well.

An oncoming walker and I moved slightly further apart to keep our 2 metres distance, A cyclist tore up between us putting all 3 of us to within 1 metre. We had been 3 people abiding by the very important regulations and then all 3 of us were breaking the regulations. I've got examples of walkers doing similar.Is this how it's going to go on?

Well said. I'm a runner, cyclist and pedestrian and its the last group who take up the whole path and are generally oblivious to whats going on around them.

The pedestrians that walk along looking at their phones are good at being oblivious - all ages of them, and the teenagers who think they are immune - when they're not.  Many people do take care.  We need to get the cyclists safely off the pavement.

Pedestrians are also the slowest and likely to cause far less injury in a collision with themselves.Everyone, joggers, cyclists and pedestrians need to be far more considerate than many of them are at the moment.

Chris, I so agree with you.It's both warming and reassuring when people go out of their way to adhere to the regulations but I observe too many instances where they don't. Often even when it's so very easy to do so.It seems they don't care for others or themselves.Chris, I'd like to add to your list picnickers who sit beside the road in Dukes Meadows which forces cyclists keeping 2 metres out towards the middle of the road; vehicles still use the road.

It's the small minority of adult/teenage cyclists who ride on the pavement even on quieter roads who are the real bozos.  On Hartington Road recently a couple of teenagers coming from the opposite direction elbow barged me and told my wife to eff off when she suggested they ride on the road. And don't get me started on adults on scooters!

Being in our 70s I am sad some of the young have not been bought up with any sense of manners.  If you are younger then you get out of the way of the elderly as a few gracious ones do. They are a little more mobile especially the joggers. All cycles should be on roads, not paths or pavements for walking. Both joggers and cyclists should wear a mask as we are told that it is those who are puffing away with their exercise that are potential spreaders of a virus like this.
