New Tree planting in Chiswick

Hounlsow Highways have planted new trees in the roads listed below. Obviously they will be maintaining them, but if you see them and think they look in need of water, please can you give them some water? I have more detailed OS points and types of trees if anyway wants them, so send me a direct message and I will send them on to you. A number of roads are listed more than once and mean that there are that number of trees. How many more trees are we going to have planted in Staveley Gardens? The amount of trees and hedge rows that are there now are causing quite a problem. You have large branches banging on the roofs of houses as its quite windy in this location. There is also one or two trees who's roots have entered the drainage system and maybe interfering with the foundations of houses. All down to very poor maintenance of Hounslow Housing and Highways

No idea Bernard. If there are problems with street trees have you reported this to HHighways on Fixmystreet? You could ask for a visit from HH also via Fixmystreet to look at the problems

Iris Hill ● 2360d

Fully agree with Bernard. I raised a tree and also tree root problem with HH years ago. It took them 18 months to accept that it was their tree, having tried to pass it off to H Homes despite being told by both Homes and me that it was Highways responsibility. It was then another 18 months before they came to look at it. Eventually the tree was dealt with but although inspecting and saying they would be back to sort out the root issue, never heard another word. It was shown on the website as having been completed.A friend looked at the problem and fixed it within 5 minutes. Highways have not yet sorted out the rain water drainage pipe the roots damaged and this was around two years ago if I remember correctly. The last thing Staveley Gardens needs is new trees.

It may be that the trees have not been planted yet. So I suggest that you ask via Fixmystreet not to have them and explain why

Iris Hill ● 2360d

IrisIf you read Bob's Post you will see that the Council take very little notice of the residents complaints.

What a shame that the only responses have been grievances and so negative.  Of course, trees need proper management but I love trees, especially those tall majestic chestnuts. Hartington Road used to have a glorious archway of these grand trees all the way from the A316.  Several have been felled and some replaced with inappropriate cherries, so the management has not been properly considered and acted upon by the local Council.  It would be good to think they are now upping their game - trees are the lungs of the World.

Jennifer Selig ● 2360d

Jennifer the reason that you see the 'grievance and  negativity' is because as you rightly say, the lack of management, there is none. I think the issue I had that was dealt with came through the welcome intervention of a local councillor otherwise I suspect I'd still be waiting. As Bernard mentioned there are some with roots growing under their houses who first contacted HH years ago and you can see this by the size of some of the roots.

Thanks for sending me the full list, Iris.  It is certainly true that young street trees need a lot of water, particularly in the current dry spell.  I've seen 20 litres per week suggested as a minimum. It's good to see that a London Plane has been planted outside The Crown at 210 CHR to replace the one that had to be removed in 2017 in order to enable a water main burst to be repaired.  I've suggested to The Crown that they should be a good resident and ensure that the tree is well watered.

Yes, new trees need water.  Please look after them.  Like us, they can't live for ever.

Looking forward to new tress- some in our street had been cut down a while ago- so will be lovely to get replacements.  Will get the kids to water!

The tree planting in Staveley Road is to replace dead cherry trees. This will ensure that future generations can enjoy the wonderful annual display of cherry blossom. These are relativeley small trees planted well away from garden walls etc so it is hard to see what problems they would cause. New trees are sited in new places if they would potentially damage underground utlities if planted in the same spot as the dead trees.

Cllr Sam Hearn ● 2358d

Sam, if you were commenting on Bernard's and/or my post, we were referring to Staveley Gdns not Staveley Rd. Just to clear things up.

Bob Guyett ● 2358d

When the Council re tarmacked the foot paths in Staveley Gardens, I took a couple of photos of the tree roots entering the drainage system.Nothing was done about it, just tarmacked over again.I will have to unearth an old hard drive from a de funked PC to see if I can find them.I think I may of given myself a impossible task, saying that

The tree outside our house in Staveley Gardens is dead. Has been for about 2 years, there are always bits falling off it. The crows sit in it and crap all over our bins and the path right outside our front doors. My neighbour has evidence from Thames Water that the roots are affecting the pipes into her house. She has reported to the council many times and they do nothing!

Rebecca Hobson ● 2357d

"She has reported to the council many times and they do nothing!"Who exactly has it been reported to?  This looks like a job for your local Councillors.:https://www.hounslow.gov.uk/info/20044/councillors_and_democracy

Philippa Bond ● 2357d

Excellent news Richard. I really miss that old London Plane.

Adam ONeill ● 2356d

"I've suggested to The Crown that they should be a good resident and ensure that the tree is well watered."I'm pleased to report that The Crown have agreed to look after the new tree.  At the moment they are shut of course, with a manager visiting occasionally, but they will do their best.  Once reopened, it will be the assistant general manager's personal responsibility to take care of the tree.  Thanks, The Crown!
