Gunnersbury Park is frequently to be seen on TV, most recently in an episode of Breeders on Sky Comedy about ten days ago.

I remember seeing a black and white spy film some years ago in which an actor, possibly Alex Guinness, walks along Strand on the Green in the evening then enters a house and gives a 994 area code to place or receive a call. Can't recall what it was called.

A lot of Judi Dench first film The Third Secret was filmed on Strand on the Green.

Tina Gallacher ● 2374d

Not recently but historically the old police station/probation office/which morphed into Carvosso's at 210 was used for external shots in some British made films.

Jeffrey Cope ● 2374d

Most of 'Summer Holiday' was filmed at Ruislip Lido.

The Vicarage and Vicarage garden of St Pauls Grove Park has been regularly used for films and TV work e.g. Smiley's People (Gary Oldman) and the Theory of Everything. It was a bit of a shock to see it turn up in an epsisode of Killing Eve.

Chiswick Empire is renamed the Palais in the 50's film 'Dance Hall'. It turns up on 'Talking Pictures. And I think scenes in  'The Servant' show the sphinxes in the grounds of Chiswick House.

Arnold Saxton ● 2373d

Maybe not in any films, but where in Chiswick is this?

Michael Brown ● 2355d

Fascinating film, Jim. I only moved to in London in 1966, so I never saw the trolleybuses. I'm guessing that film is from about 1959, because I spotted a Pininfarina A40, but didn't see any Minis. Why the twin axles at the rear of the trolley buses? Was one a steering axle?

Robert Fish ● 2355d

Sorry Michael, cant help. However, being a local lad I do know some of the sites. There is a sequence in The Sweeney? (Waterman and Thaw) are in a car chase with villains. They roar around and out of the U shaped drive in front of Stamford Court(the large block of flats adjacent to the Raven pub in Goldhawk Road and the next shot is the car chase arriving next to Arthur Daley's (Minder) car sales yard in Brook Green less than 3 secs later! Wish I could drive that fast in Hammersmith.

Jeffrey Cope ● 2355d

no, no, no, Jeffery - I know where this place is in Chiswick, and I took the photo, today. I'm testing to see how well the people of Chiswick know their area.

Michael Brown ● 2355d

Yes full of nostalgic music and sights Robert (apologies for delayed reply)I believe the whole London fleet had twin rear axles..but neither for steering to my knowledge. They were QUIET vehicles and narrow in width too so two chubbies couldn't sit easily side by side! In Chiswick we saw the 655s to Hanwell, 657s to Hounslow and 667s to Hampton Court.

Jim Lawes ● 2352d

I'm sure I've seen this .Is it between Barnes railway bridge and the Corney Reach estate ?

Ben Gemmingen ● 2352d

This old turnstile is on Barnes Bridge

Bernard Allen ● 2352d

Really enjoyed that Jim, thanks

Tina Gallacher ● 2352d

"Chiswick Empire is renamed the Palais in the 50's film 'Dance Hall'"I don't think that's correct. The film was made in 1950.The exterior of the "Chiswick Palais" is actually the Gaumont Streatham, which was closed between 1944 (when it was bombed) and 1955.I don't believe that the Chiswick Empire appears in this film.https://www.reelstreets.com/films/dance-hallhttp://cinematreasures.org/theaters/19961

The Beatles photos brought back some memories. We stood on Thames road behind the City Barge and whatch  the band rehearse. Then we sneaked around to I front of the bulls head but didn’t get much further as we were stopped. The only bit we did see filmed , was the stunt men diving out of the front windows  Of the City Barge.
