I found it a bit sad. The woman clearly has mental health issues and the enforced isolation of the lockdown must be tough for her. The saintly patience of the police officer dealing with her suggests he spends a lot of his time having to manage people like her.

What an irritating know-it-all timewaster, the policeman deserves a medal for his patience.  It's a pity she didn't have the courage to show her own face but her voice is distinctive so perhaps someone will recognise it and put up a video of her.

A pity for the police, but the government has elected enforcement on false pretences. The woman knows she's no more a risk, or at risk, than anyone else along the river, so shows contempt for the policy that it deserves. Each police officer morraly agreed with her and felt stupid - it was written all over their faces.

I only watched about seven minutes of this but I couldn’t help noticing that there were several couples and groups of other people in the immediate environment who were flouting social distancing regulations, apparently unchallenged, whereas this woman was alone on a bench, isolated, apart from the interrogating policeman.  Proportionate?

I think some of the comments are unduly judgmental, e.g. "selfish, pathetic, attention-seeking", "desperate woman starved of male attention and hoping to be handcuffed and, better still, strip searched" or "absolute shocking example of a human being". Ye gods! She's obviously a nutter (if you doubt that, look at some of her other videos, as Julian suggested). Do we have to pick on the mentally infirm?

Anyone who thinks this woman is a nutter is clearly wrong. The woman is an anarchist and an extremely selfish one. She had the whole thing planned. She knew exactly what she was doing and what she was saying and attempted to out-wit the police with her googled interpretation of English Common Law, well prepared before the encounter with the police. She clearly sets out to be malicious and quite ridiculous. The clue is in her YouTube name 'Cheeky'.    The police should have let her 'exercise' her dullard mind in police cells for a week or two.

The police said (and the lady sitting on the bench agreed) that she'd been sitting there for some time (45 mins to 1 hour?).She'd been spoken to before. Most of us on this forum (I suspect) believe she probably was flouting the, or being in breach of, the law. She chose to do so, and accepted that being arrested was a consequence of her actions. While it's likely that some of the others were in breach of the regulations (haven't studied the video to watch for this, and social distancing doesn't apply to people who live together, so some of those people mentioned probably weren't breaking the law) you can't predict what these other people would have done if the Police had spoken to them. Nethertheless, the police walking away from this situation after having spoken to the lady previously would (IMO) have been wrong, and so yes, I believe the action was proportionate.

Well at least you've moved on from morons to dullards. But if a dullard merits a week or two in police cells, what of morons — euthanasia? Incidentally, I don't see any evidence to justify calling her an anarchist. An oddball certainly, a flat earther, a 5G objector, one who sees strange signs in NASA earth images, and a fellow-traveller with MB in the belief that the coronavirus scare is exaggerated or perhaps even faked. I wouldn't be surprised if she were an anti-vaxxer to boot. It's all part of a contrarian alternative world view.

I would say the same about myself although perhaps 'desperate' is too strong a word! I think you would agree that things said and things written can come across in very different ways. Whatever, the woman seemed to be relishing the attention and no doubt relives the experience through endless replays of her silly little video.

I am not qualified to judge whether this woman has a mental health problem or not. I feel that that 'diagnosis' has become a catch all for explaining away the wide range of human behaviour that is exhibited by some people which baffles other people. She certainly has an attitude problem, chip on shoulder whatever you want to call it but I not sure any court could convict her of anything, but I am not an exert on law. I am a little surprised that the old bill were not wearing any protective gear at all, but there may be an operational reason for this.

I'm not at all surprised by the old bill's not wearing any protective gear. In my experience, as recounted on another thread, of giving a statement to the police, they didn't observe social distancing in my house, despite the fact I'd asked them to keep their distance. That also chimes with the experience of my wife's niece, who was stopped with her partner whilst she was driving on L-plates on the way to the supermarket, and told that it was not appropriate to be having a driving lesson.  The PC had his face at the open passenger window during a protracted conversation whilst the partner explained that they were simply on the way to the supermarket to do a weekly shop, and also asked him to stay a bit further away from the window — a request which he totally ignored. Given that the Met Commissioner was observed in the midst of a crowd on London Bridge clapping for NHS staff, I think we can assume that the sense that the police are exempt from social distancing comes down from the top.

One doesn't need an outsized ego to point out ridiculous and silly 'assumptions'It was already reported on 8 April that police in Haringey are under internal investigation over allegations they “showed flagrant disregard” for social distancing rules, so why would anybody still believe that it comes from the top to ignore social distancing. Our police have a very tough job trying to enforce the law to protect the public from the morons who are seen to be spreading the virus so cut them some slack!And yes, they were 100% right to pull your niece over if they thought she was out on a jolly having a driving lesson.STAY HOMEPROTECT THE NHSSAVE LIVESIf you follow the rules you won't risk having the Police 'in your face'
