To be fair James the 'rules' (if you can call them that) around the lockdown are very loose. At the end of the day is there any real difference between someone who goes food shopping once a week, and, either as part of the same journey or as part of another trip, goes to B&Q, than there is to someone who goes to Sainsburys several times a week for fresh produce ?. Is it any more 'essential' to have fresh bread than to buy several packets of part-baked rolls ?.I've no political affiliation, but it will be 5 weeks tomorrow since the lockdown here started, and unlike virtually every other country (regardless of whether their supposed 'peak' was before or after ours) our government hasn't detailed any kind of plan regarding the lockdown exit process. And, it has to be acknowledged, the in the 7-10 days prior to the lockdown the government was all the place in terms of the advice issued regarding going out etc., as though it was terrified of restricting civil liberties. In that context, it's hardly surprising that both companies and individuals are increasingly making their own decisions about how they should behave, whether their businesses should open etc. After all, this is well illustrated by how it was purely a decision made by some the big fast food operators to close their stores rather than being directed to do so by the government, whereas others (like Dominos, Papa Johns etc.) have remained open throughout the lockdown. I'm fully expecting Boris to magically reappear tomorrow and unveil the lockdown plan for this country, which I suspect has been deliberately held back until Boris's return in order to consolidate this notion that he's in "control" (after all it's his favourite word). As for clapping for the NHS, don't you think it's become something of a "jump on the bandwagon" gimmick with the social media obsessed masses thinking they're so great by capturing themselves on Instagram or such like making noise at 8pm every Thursday in an unusual manner ? - the same masses that are probably then going in Sainsburys every day but think that because they clapped for the NHS at 8pm on Thursday they are the cream of the human race ?.
