Food wanted

I took some food to Strand on the Green infants school this afternoon, and the head teacher said they were really in need for families that have no food at all. So if you have any spare, they really need it. Open from 8 to about 5

City Harvest or The Felix Project are doing an amazing job getting free food out there.  I am sure they would be very happy to help out here

Rather than turning up with some food, send money to the food charity of your choice. They can probably buy on better terms than you, they can buy what they need (which usually includes basic toiletries as well as food) and they get the benefit of gift aid if you're a UK tax payer. Plus you get to offset the contribution against your tax bill and you don't have to go beyond your front door.

You can't offset your contribution vs your tax bill if gift aid has been claimed on it by the charity. It is either/or.

Hi Beverley! It’s “Pantslady” :) I hope all is well with you. If you’d like, you can use me as your direct contact and drop off w me (I am right next to the school) The drop off at school itself is non-contact and just outside the Infant school entrance on Brooks Lane in the mornings, but as I am working from home, anytime works for me as interim dropoff if that’s better for you? You should have my number already from the Shelter seasons, bit I’ve sent you an email w my adress and number too.Helle x

This thread to do with Strand on the Green School requesting food for local families raised my eyebrows.I was at the School in the early 1940s at the time of food rationing and more. Whilst we had holes in our socks,shoes and trousers...we managed to grt well fed.So the current plight is alarming.

I meant to add that there was a guest teacher..a Mr Hilary..from Buffolo, USA wh arranged for "food parcels from the USA" but all full of sweets which were rationed and in very short supply. It was possibly 1946. The School Choir produced a 78rpm record at a London Studio od Brshms Lullaby and that favourite "Summertime when the living is easy!" Memories indeed.

That's not correct if you're a higher rate tax payer.  The charity will claim 20% basic rate tax back - you then claim the remaining 20% tax back through your tax return
