Forced closure of Gunnersbury Park Bowls Club thwarted
You may remember a few months ago the CIC who nowadays runs Gunnersbury Park decided to kick out the bowls club despite the fact that the bowlers looked after the premises, maintained the green and cost the councils not a penny, while providing activity and social companionship for senior members of the community.Well, CIC's application for planning permission to turn the clubhouse into a cafe (there is already a cafe a few minutes away and there will be another one when the sports hall right next to the bowling green is completed) was refused, because it was not sufficient grounds to justify the loss of a community amenity! We now hope bowling can return to Gunnersbury Park, where it has been a tradition for nearly a hundred years, as soon as the present lockdown allows.
