No cycling Strand on the Green  and make one way

Hounslow have argued to keep the  statutory signs for 20 years and still people cycle along the narrow footpath. As the police NEVER stop anyone doing it anyway the argument that they “couldn’t” with clearer signs seems a bit spurious. Same as No dog mess prosecutions. The footpath’s not even in the street cleaning schedule. (Although promised). Let’s have the narrow path shut to joggers and cyclist at the moment and made ONE WAY (as not possible to pass 2m apart) until virus crisis over.

Richmond Lock Bridge has got a one way system - Richmond side - to Twickenham side in operation for several weeks now. There were the obvious plonkers who apparently couldn't see the two large 'No Entry' signs and explanatory notices on either side of the piers at the entrance to the steps on the Twickenham side. People now have 'got it' and it seems to be working - because the bridge itself just isn't wide enough to pass 2M apart.

Is the proposal from STOG Association sent to the council to close the from 10am to 6pm as they have done for the paths along Chiswick Mall etc on the weekends, or are they proposing further restrictions throughout the week too? Its not clear from the article on the front page.

Walking along the Thames Oath to Hammersmith yesterday clear notices were being ignored by runners, cyclist, still causing havoc among walkers.Nearing the narrowing by the Dove Pub there were stewards enforcing people to go back via the A 4 as the path was closed.Why are Hounslow Council not enforcing this as along the stretch of the Mall  near the brewery up to Hogarth Roundabout?Yesterday  and today there were groups of cyclist, runners ignoring social distancing. This is not  endangering themselves but others they come into close contact with.

The restrictions have only been put in place by LBH&F not by LBH. I expect that whatever mode of exercise anyone is using they are feeling irritated by people using other modes. This morning I got irritated by walkers right in the middle of Dukes Avenue inside Chiswick House not leaving enough space for people to walk past in the opposite direction or jog past as I was trying to do. Also ladies walking dogs stopping to chat 2m apart leaving insufficient space for people to pass with 2m space. Also two ladies walking four dogs each all on leads taking up all of the pavement space on different roads in Grove Park. I am not going to call for a ban on walkers or dog walkers though. Just got to put up with it as best as possible.

Our outside spaces risk becoming like prison exercise yards. There needs to be some common sense here. Strand on the Green is no cycling already,  and extending that all along the river, where there is a lot of space, is of concern.Not sure I understand the poster’s aim here though.  Is the plan here to have a one way system for these apparently dawdling ladies, dog walkers and joggers, so they can only walk one side of the river, or do they divert along the roads?

Well done Richmond lock for its one way ! Well done Hammersmith for trying . Our council lead Steve Curran sent out a letter last week saying signs were going up saying that  the narrow tow path  is not suitable for runners/cyclists  during social distancing period.  Strand on the Green is only 4ft wide at its narrowest.  But no signs have been put up. The simple one way would be riverside in one direction and  parallel Thames Road the other. They meet at each end of approx 400 yard length. So even ok for dawdlers. (Who are probably also most vulnerable) and not far for joggers and cyclists to give up the view to possibly save lives. Here is what Cllr Curran said but not done “ Guidance is now in place alongside towpaths near the River Thames in order to help people maintain safe distance measures. Signage has been introduced following reports of safe distancing rules being ignored and users taking unnecessary risks on narrow stretches of the towpath. ”

Here is what Cllr Curran said but not done “ Guidance is now in place alongside towpaths near the River Thames in order to help people maintain safe distance measuresLiz when was the last time you were on the STOG?  I was there this morning at 6am and walked alongside the STOG riverside starting form the Bell and Crown end where there is now a sign asking joggers to giveway and cyclings to dismount. Your statement that signs have not been put up is therefore not correct.

It's actually the P.L.A. - however - because a number of people who clearly need to either 'go to Specsavers' or learn to read, decided the one way working didn't apply to them, the lock bridge has now been permanently closed to everyone.

Heard from Cllr Curran that the signs went up this morning! And they have! He supervised personally.  (I was last out for my hour yesterday eve. ). A big thank you to him and his team. Much quieter  (and more bike pushing) on the tow path today.

FYI This is what the LBH signs (which were up when I was there on Friday evening) say ... Whether anyone actually takes notice is another matter.Social distancing on narrow paths- Cyclists must obey the rules and dismount- Joggers must slow down and only pass when safe- Dog walkers must always keep dogs on leads- Keep a safe distance from others you do not live with- Seek alternative routes if congestedRemember- Don't touch your face while out- Wash your hands when you get home or into work

Most people do and think it is likely that cyclists who ignore 'No Cycling' signs aren't aware that a picture of a cycle in a red circle is a prohibition.

Yesterday whilst jogging I was forced to stop by two walkers and their dogs spread over the entire footpath instead of keeping to one side. "Your insistence that joggers and cyclists are the only ones at fault irritates me. "Not the only. But unfortunately it's mostly the joggers and cyclists. Seems like they are not prepared to slow down. I'd say 9 out of 10 joggers I meet when walking pass me too closely, without slowing down.As for the cyclists on Strand on the Green - I'd say there number has dropped down and seems like the ones that still cycle there are more considerate - seems like they know they are doing the wrong thing, so they do slow down and are prepared to negotiate a safe pass.
