Mayor tells business owners to sell luxury cars

The Mayor of Tirana in Albania has said that business owners should sell their luxury cars instead of asking the state for financial aid during the Covid-19 crisis: “if you are a VIP business, it makes no sense to ask the government for lost profits from the war! Sell the car! The help is for the workers who make you rich!.”

Excellent idea. They definitely should do the same here. I am hoping that finance companies will be recalling the tens of thousands of huge SUVs which clog up London roads.

Err.... who are the owners going to sell their cars too?Is it to the workers who probably can't afford to run them or wealthy people that can?Hang on, wealthy people already have luxury cars which they are supposed to be selling.Err.....

So will Mayor Khan do the same for the City Hall fleet of cars?Somehow I rather doubt it

Justin Stephenson ● 2390d

Yeah because its all the finance companies that own the SUVs in London Steve. Bit too long in lock down for you?

No, not all, Hayden.85 percentAbout 85 percent of new cars are bought with financing, and the increase in the average payment tracks with increased sales of more expensive SUVs and also an uptick in new-car loan rates.

What fleet of cars is that? It seems that the only car operated by the GLA is a 1996 Land Rover, though they own some cars for Tfl, The Fire brigade and the Police.
