REALLY UNBELIEVABLE

What is REALLY UNBELIEVABLE is what I am listening to right now - one Donald Trump lying about how great he did re the cv issue, aggressive attacks on journalists just trying to do their job, lie after lie after lie and NOT BEING HELD TO ACCOUNT.  Alright, he might have a point about WHO who were pretty appalling but nothing like as appalling as he is. How on earth can Americans - some of whom are extremely smart although clearly some of whom are very far from it - vote for this dismal, dangerous cretin?  I know this is supposed to be a local forum but what this idiot does affects us all.  So extremely distressed that this buffoon has so much power.

Trump knows about the plot to destroy economies with ‘COVID-19’, and he’s clearly not in that gang, so is not prepared to sit back and watch the United States economically destroyed, which will, in turn, create incredible negative effects on the population’s finances, health, lifespan etc. etc. Top man, Donald.

How exactly are the WHO 'really appalling'? While, like every large organisation they have some flaws, every medical expert seems to agree they have been successful in containing previous epidemics and global co-ordination is the only possible way to tackle coronavirus.

Robert, as I’ve said on another thread, some governments want to see the collapse of their economy. It’s no secret that Macron is a proponent of the New World Order, and when he announced a month’s lockdown extension a couple of days ago, he gleefully told the French people about the ‘good’ that will come out of it. He can’t wait to scrap the current economic and social system, but it’s not for everyone; and those that have an inkling as to what is going on aren’t necessarily stupid.

I'm also scratching my head at why the WHO might be considered 'pretty appalling'. If this government had listened to and followed the advice given by the WHO when it was given then the outbreak would have been much easier to contain. It was only by the second week of March that they started to take the advice seriously. Why then are the government not even more appalling? Not expecting an answer from Clare as her strident opinions are rarely troubled by facts.

Why fruitcake? The video is very interesting. It is an FT production and Macron talks articulately in a way that should make any sensible person in the UK or the US pine for grown up leadership. I can see why some might find his intellectual approach a bit cold but he makes some very important points. No sane person could argue against health multi-lateralism and the WHO is the body that enables that. I have found nobody who has more than a scrap of knowledge about this who believes the influence of the WHO isn't positive and that the global reaction to a global pandemic is only as strong as the weakest response from one country.As for political multilateralism, I can see why people might demur from Macron's views but he made perfect sense to me. The global economy recovered from the devastation of the second world war by nations working collaboratively. That is really the only template we have for getting out of this mess.

There is a world of difference between ‘a’ new world order and ‘the’ new world order.  The old or current world order comprises the likes of Trump, Putin, and other appalling dictators.  It is a world that accepts gross inequality between rich and poor as being ‘the only way’.  I think a lot of people would welcome some radical changes but they don’t fall for the paranoid delusion that we are all being micromanaged by some shadowy cabal.  The real billionaire manipulators are lying and cheating in defence of their own interests in plain sight but some True Believers seem happy to ignore this.

I agree that a ‘Macron’ world may be a better place (and it may not), but I am of the opinion that such leaders are using the virus to change the world by stealth, which is what I don’t agree with. We’re supposed to live in a democracy, but if the French are being falsely locked up for months (as we may well be) so that certain leaders (or those pulling their strings) get the world they want…

Talk to anybody who works in the NHS or any other health service in the world for that matter and they will explain to you the harsh mathematics of the way this virus works. If you don't have the equipment to treat acute respiratory distress you have to decide who lives and dies. They will ALL tell you that some form of lockdown is necessary to reduce the peak rate of infection. Different countries have different ways of doing this and it is perhaps not a surprise that the French, who are perhaps overfond of bureaucracy have been quick to accept a more restrictive lockdown than other countries.The main change that is likely to arise from this current crisis is that there will be a broader consensus that our health care system needs to be better funded so cheers to the cabal if that was their intention.

You'd need to know about the overall cabal package. To date, looking around the world and comparing figures of lockdown and non-lockdown countries, there is no conclusive evidence that supports the destruction of people's livelihoods or imprisoning them, so may not be a cabal to trust.

As I understand things, China is one of the biggest contributors to WHO funds, the US haven't paid their dues for quite a while and Trump says that they are 'China-centric'. Whatever the rights and wrongs of China's part in this pandemic, surely it is better to have them in the tent than to further alienate this secretive state? I can't think of the orange one or listen to him without thinking in four letter words, nothing describes what a menace he is, his priority is getting himself elected again, and if he has to cheat and lie and rewrite history to get there then so be it.You only have to look at those complete thugs and d*ckheads in Michigan who want lockdown lifted - armed to the teeth with guns (who knew you could shoot Coronavirus?) to see the rabid, bigoted thickos he attracts. I don't care if that bunch catch Covid 19 it's the other people they endanger I feel for.Trump knows the longer this goes on the worse his chances are - no wonder he wants to start opening up again, it is frightening and horrifying. I don't have much time for our government, but by Christ next to him they look bloody amazing!

Given that more or less every health agency in the globe is recommending lockdown as a strategy to stop the spread of the virus and common sense would suggest a disease spread by contact between is less likely to spread if there is less contact between people, I think it is safe to assume lockdown is probably the right way to go. The data will be unclear for now because of the incubation period of the disease but new infection rates as measured by online tracking apps do seem to be falling sharply in the UK. Of course it could be a huge coincidence that this happened just when it should have done given when lockdown started but probably not.

Look at that complete tw*t Bolsonaro in Bazil, the sh*t in Hungary - Orban, and some real moron in Kenya name of Sonko, who has distributed bottles of cognac to the poor telling them it protects against coronavirus, and let's not forget that pillock in Turkey. I'm a bit sceptical that they would ever have thought that coronavirus wasn't transmissible between people. Why would it even have been mentioned by them if this was so?

I am genuinely interested. The latest figures that I can find show that mainland China's funding of the WHO is pathetic. Way, way less than the good old UK let alone the US of A and even less than the EU.China is a nation with a full arsenal of nuclear weapons, the second largest offensive navy on the planet, the world's largest standing army and a fully resourced space programme that will see a base established on the moon within the next 5 years,  However, I agree with you that now is not the time to be winding up the Chinese.  As for the men and women protesting in Lansing Michigan, its a good job that they are not trying it in mainland China. They do things differently there.
