Strand on The Green Post Office

I would like to say a “Big Thank You” to Mrs Joshi  despite her own health conditions is opening extended hours to help out locals in their search for post office services.I have known this lady for many years and she always tries to offer the best professional  services to her customers with a smile.

Here, here couldn't agree more for Mrs Joshi.

Stuart Wood ● 2393d

Mrs Joshi is a greatly valued asset to Strand on the Green.  Today on several occasions I looked out during the afternoon to see the queue of people stretching from the post office back as far as the recreation ground waiting to get in.  Mrs Joshi must have been exhausted by the time she was able to close.  Please only go to the post office when she is next open if it is essential. We owe her a huge debt of gratitude.

Mrs Joshi is the true RockStar of Strand on the Green!!! Always lovely, always smiling. Please only go to her post office if essential though - and protect her as best as you can. I'll drop round a bottle of extra hand sanitizer for her later today if she's open (supplied with an order for something else from the lovely & local Pai Cosmetics).

Helle Kaiser-Nielsen ● 2393d

Do you think anyone would stand in such a long queue unless it wasn’t essential?

Lucy Brennan ● 2393d

Mailboxes in the High Rd has limited opening . Very helpful young man serving there yesterday . Its disadvantage is that it does not offer full PO service-no 2nd class for instance and its selling is very manual . \no fancy machines printing off labels

John Martin ● 2393d

LEB? London Electricity Board. Thought they disappeared about 30 years ago...

Brian Coyle ● 2393d

Thank you for the kind words about my mother. She wanted to help everyone in the queue and closed at 6.30pm instead of 5.30pm.FYI - the post office will be open tomorrow from 9am to 1pm. Thereafter it's unclear as my mother will need to consider her health.

🙄

Lucy Brennan ● 2392d

🙄 is not for you Milan!

Lucy Brennan ● 2392d

I honestly do not agree, not only is the shop in desperate need of a deep clean, it is filthy the woman is soo rude, i stopped using this post office 20 years ago.Even in the old days , a packet of sweets would be opened and sold individually, this gave me the impression that there was no rules being adhered too, hence why the shop is like something that should of been shut years ago

Lorraine Harrison ● 2392d

If you haven’t been there for 20 years, LH, perhaps you should not criticise an obviously well-loved shop. All sorts of things have probably changed over two decades.

Lucy Chambers ● 2392d

No disrespect - but back off, Lorraine. If you stopped using it 20 years ago, how on EARTH do you know if Mrs J is rude? We've been using the post office for 15 years and regularly so. There is not a kinder soul and a more community spirited lady than mrs Joshi. If you can't say anything nice .... Esp if your "impression" is from 20 years ago!!

Helle Kaiser-Nielsen ● 2392d

Very true (But lockdown makes for booooooooooooooooooooooooring where even a post office being open can seem exciting :D)

Helle Kaiser-Nielsen ● 2392d

I am entitled to MY OPINION ....are you saying the post office is a clean and looked after place to visit ? are you saying Joshi doesn't get rude to children that go in there ? or even that she is a pleasant person to all ??

Lorraine Harrison ● 2391d

Mrs Joshi provides a wonderful service to all of us in the area.  She is unfailingly friendly to all her customers.  I dread to think of life here without the service she gives our community of which she is a much-loved pillar.

Jonathan Bond ● 2391d

Presumably "Lorraine Harrison" is a parody account?

Mike Firth ● 2391d

queued at SOTG PO for 30 mins today. Only PO open in the wide area. She couldn't have been more helpful, friendly and obliging.

Simon Temple ● 2391d

Heaven knows. But (apparently) 20 (TWENTY) years ago mrs J was rude to this lady... So surely she must still be --- despite all of our accounts to the contrary, in the present day and time. As I said: Mrs. J is one of the kindest nicest people I know and I have never seen her be rude to anyone, let alone a child.

Helle Kaiser-Nielsen ● 2391d

Once upon a time we people from this side of Chiswick also had our own little post office (on Bedford Corner) run by our own local treasure.  That was Mr Lad – or Ratilal to his many friends. So we well understand how and why our neighbouring yokels from lovely Grove Park have come to venerate their own – the rather wonderful sounding Mrs Joshi..Lorraine Harrison reads like an unfortunate mix of “hell hath no fury” coupled with “an elephant never forgets”...unnecessary opinion way past its sell-by date and best ignored...

Stuart Kerr ● 2391d

How very correct.    Also who is Lorraine Harrison- has she ever bothered to post on here before?  Maybe she's not a real person??

Jennifer Selig ● 2391d

A Lorraine Harrison posted on a thread about homelessness in January 2017, but seems not to have posted since until she joined in on this thread.

Richard Greenhough ● 2391d

& equally charming then as far as I can see... Ah well.

Helle Kaiser-Nielsen ● 2391d

I went down to SOTG Post Office about 1600 today - it was closed, with a notice saying that it was closed until further notice due to health considerations

Andrzej Kowalski ● 2390d

you are entitled to your opinion just like i am !

Lorraine Harrison ● 2390d

sorry i didnt know this forum was only for people who have an opinion to share every day ? i have better things to do with my time, you can all carry on being "team Joshi" the facts i made that the shop is filthy and the woman is rude , i have many people at the local school who agree with me , overall i am glad you can enjoy your trips to the post office to lighten you day !!

Lorraine Harrison ● 2390d

Lorraine H - you can, of course, have your opinions but in this instance, it served no useful contribution especially after so many months of silence.  It was entirely inappropriate for you to spout off at this particular time.

Jennifer Selig ● 2390d

20 years ago, didn't the shop and post office have more than one person working in it at that time?

Bernard Allen ● 2390d

When did you last visit SOTG sub-Post Office?
Simple question which would either offer validation to your comment or offer proof of 'empty vessel'.

N V Brooks ● 2390d

i went in there about 4 weeks ago for a friend who was returning a parcel

Lorraine Harrison ● 2390d

as i said i have better things to do do with my time than add my opinion to every topic, i certainly do not have to ask your permission to "spout off". and as for "this particular time" what do you do for a living ?

Lorraine Harrison ● 2390d

Lorraine, as you implied that you have many people at the local school backing you up on this.....I am wondering why they are not on here sticking up for your opinion.

Cindy Carloss ● 2390d

Do you honestly think everyone in Chiswick is aware of this forum ??? carry on with your praise for your postwomen, i dont need to prove who agrees with me, i am simply telling the truth

Lorraine Harrison ● 2390d

".... i am simply telling the truth"  as you saw it, some 20 years ago!  Whatever, but this thread was NOT the place to appear out of the blue when we were all praising an elderly and not very fit lady who has loyally served this community for countless years.  You obviously have no idea of empathy - there's a place and a time for everything but now was NOT the time for your negative opinion.  What was the object?

Jennifer Selig ● 2389d

Oh Jennifer you love to hear your own voice and not other peoples opinions, i am not a sheep and i will voice my opinion, have a great weekend

Lorraine Harrison ● 2389d

It would seem you are by far the minority concerning the lovely Mrs Joshi. She goes far and beyond her remit as a sub Post Mistress, she keeps the PINs for elderly people who cannot remember them, she has been known to open far beyond her usual hours to help the Community, she has suffered at least two frightening burglaries and finally her service was recognised at Buckingham Palace where she received her reward for Service to the Community. Lorraine your opinion pales into insignificance compared to those of the rest of our community. Thank you Mrs Joshi, we owe you an immense amount of gratitude.

John Sutton ● 2389d

Hear hear! @Milan - can you ping me your new address on Messenger or Pm me. Fiona would like to draw something for your mom this week.H

Helle Kaiser-Nielsen ● 2388d

No - what you really mean is you like having a Post Office on your doorstep.

Pippa Meldrum ● 2322d

Lorraine - I couldn't agree more. The shop is filthy. I agree the post mistress can be rude and I have heard so many stories about her attitude to certain people. I used to have my hair cut on Thames Road and the stories the hairdressers would tell me! Honestly, shocking!
