Bookcase London

Just fancied having a raid and a rummage of the above mentioned. They are not operating online at the moment. Really hoping this is a business that we can keep. Really don't want to see this gem of a place urn into yet anothe a) Starbucks or b)posh burger bar. Will try Fosters in the meantime, another Chiswick speciallity!

The staff have all been furloughed so that prevents them from working in the shop.  Also their wholesaler stopped business, so they were unable to continue the online service. The furloughing means they should be back at some point, I hope. Waterstones is selling online and loads of small independent bookshops.

Thank you for the info. I would hate to see these places go under. I always aim for independant stores when I can.

Furloughing staff won't come anywhere near to ensuring businesses like Bookcase survive. I don't know what the circumstances of this shop is but many smaller independent businesses on the High Road endure because they have leases that mean they pay rent well below the current market level. Rent and business rates still remain to be paid and if a business misses monthly payments they run the risk of eviction. Some landlords will be keen to get rid of tenants on relatively low cost leases so, unless the government acts to give retail businesses some sort of protection, the High Road will look very different when this is all over.
