This is the problem. Families struggle to stay in London because of the lack of family housing. This then means that people move out and commute long distances, which is bad for family life, and bad for the environment. They need to completely rebalance London's building stock. They need to move jobs to other places, so people can live there, and not travel 50 miles to get to work. We shouldn't be building any more office space in London at all. What residential that is still built in London should be family homes with 3 bedrooms minimum. Build enough of them, and prices will drop. That means prices for 1 and 2 bed places would also drop, which would be good for everyone.Ideally, there would be a good number of houses with their own gardens, but that's probably unattainable. Even where there are flats, they should be offered share of freehold, with minimal service charges. They should also be limited to 5 floors. London is too densely populated as it is. We don't want to be making it worse. That's the root cause of the congestion on our trasnport system. If we stop the building of new offices, then jobs would move elsewhere, and a lot of our problems would be alleviated. This is radical, but without something like that, our problems will persist.
