Vanessa - (1) Khan was talking about people in general on the underground not being able to catch it, not just drivers and (2) those cabins are not, for obvious reasons, totally enclosed. Germs can travel round a bus or underground carriage pretty easily. It is sheer common sense that you can catch it anywhere and everywhere unless you don't touch anything at all and are at least two meters away from anyone else (most recent advice is at least six metres away - two metres is an absolute minimum). Personally, for years if anyone has sneezed in a carriage or on the bus no matter how far away from me they are I try to hold my breath, get out at the next stop and go into another carriage or wait for another bus. Of course if someone has just sneezed or coughed in there I may still be at risk but it's all about minimising risk. And for years have always washed my hands as soon as I get home particularly if travelling by public transport as I have always been very keen to avoid colds, coughs and flu. Worked pretty well for me.
