Roadwork repair during coronavirus crisis.

Would now be a good time for highways maintenance to carry out major road repairs and pothole repairs. Minimum disruption. If distancing feasible for contractors then this would make sense.

There did seem to be a bit of a surge of work going on as the pandemic started to develop but that may have been just the usual increase that comes with the financial year end.The obvious objection to what you are proposing is the extra risk the workers will be exposed to and will be exposing others too. However, small scale construction may be a special case because of the nature of where many of the workers live and how they get to work. The government should quickly draw up a code of practise to guide councils. The big issue locally on this is should CS9 construction work be restarted. The argument for this would be that it would minimise the overall impact of the construction on traffic and local retailers who are mostly shut anyway. The problem may be that TfL's financial position is so dire at the moment that there is no guarantee that the project will now go ahead.

Work for the start of the Twickenham to Brentford cycleway that not many people wanted - started here the week before last. The crew has now gone and what a mess it looks with random bits of asphalt all over the place. Apart from a corner being widened it is difficult to tell what exactly has been done. It will be interesting to see how much it gets used when it is finally completed..............

Pothole near me filled in this week.

I suppose that in a way there is something comforting about the same people moaning about cycle lanes and hoping that they won’t be built despite everything that is going on. Plus ca change. Felicity Buchan has decided that the best use of her time at the moment is not to worry about how we can test people, get PPE to frontline staff, deliver food packages to vulnerable people or help businesses get emergency loans. Far more important to write a long letter saying she doesn’t want a cycle lane on Holland Park Avenue.

Paul, no-one is saying that there aren't far more pressing issues to be dealt wit,h but there are also some ordinary mundane things happening too. I daresay if any of us are in a position to help the emergency services or anyone else, then we will certainly be doing so, but that doesn't mean we should stop noticing what is going on locally either. Sarky comments are hardly helpful are they?
