Housework

With my cleaner sensibly at home, I cleaned the kitchen today while listening to Round Britain Quiz and was reminded of something my old professor, the late John Weightman, once said: that he liked doing housework as it was a quick and easy way of imposing order on chaos.

...while at the same time frustrating because you know the chaos will regain the upper hand only moments later.

It always reminds me how grateful I am to those who clean for us. It's hard work and boring.

I've agreed with my wonerful cleaner, Dorota, to give her the time off until this nightmare is over, but still pay her. It's the right thing to do. I hate housework but it's keeping me out of mischief 😉

Yes, that's a good point, Will. At least with just me, I can keep the place from descending into a tip again immediately. My late husband used to wait until Kasia had cleaned the kitchen sink each week and then dump a load of coffee grounds in it.

I actually dont mind cleaning. Even a few hours on sunday is not so bad. Its the thought process, but once i start i dont stop. And im told im good at it to boot.

I'm the same, don't like strangers coming in either.

You may be a good cleaner, Julian but by the sound of it you would make a lousy burglar.

What a difference clean windows make on these bright sunny mornings as well as feeling virtuous after several hours of upper body exercise.
