It's very easy to say that Paul, but many people of all ages simply can't afford to not work for a year. There has to be a balancing act between doing what we can to minimise deaths, infections etc, whilst maintaining the economy as much as possible. In my line of work for example, a minority of Councils are being proactive, replacing planning committees with emergency decision making powers for senior officers, trying to implement technology to keep things moving etc. Others are just effectively suspending committees, site visits, preapp meetings until further notice, and simply asking Officers to work from home but not offering any mobile contact numbers or any technological solutions, as though clients can wait months for decisions and I can just put my feet up.The reality is that yes people are dying of COVID-19, but also more people are being made redundant every day already. And, heartless as it may sounds, the world cannot stop.
