Self isolate over 70's

Stay at home for at least 4 months if you are over 70- have I really got this right if you are healthy at the moment?  Think this is slightly over the top.

I am 87. What am I supposed to eat and drink if I self isolate for weeks on end. So over the top.

The care home my dad is in has gone into lockdown indefinitely. Residents kept in their (small) rooms all day. Not even allowed phone calls or letters. My dad has very bad dementia. This will only make him worse I feel.

If this really went ahead it would mean there would be very very many lonely people out there- many more than at present.

What happens to those of us who ‘go out to work’?  What happens to my job which I can’t switch and go all from home.  What happens to me as I need the money financially?  There must be loads of 70+ people in my situation?

Channel 4 are now saying just now is that this will happen- my goodness surely this can not happen!

Presumably will be just a recommendation - like washing your hands regularly.  How could it be enforced?

The message is unclear. In Scotland they’re suggesting minimising social contact, But they haven’t said when either in Scotland or here. it’s an attempt to stop the NHS being overwhelmed as there aren’t enough beds, ventilators or nurses.

I think the issue here is the print media who used the headline  'quarantined' followed by the news outlets with "could be quarantined"I am sure the idea is asking or recommending it. No one is going to come after you for walking down CHR

"No one is going to come after you for walking down CHR". You wpuldn't have thought so but the Daily Telegraph is saying that if you caught you could face a fine of upto £1,000.And we all know that what the Telegraph writes is absolutely true. It's been telling us as much for years....Imagine the rise in crime while the police force chases all of the over 70s breaking quarantine....

Contrary to what we read - when you reach the big 70 you do not suddenly become a decrepit wreck of your former self. Yes, there are many who do not enjoy good health, as there are in other much younger age groups, but there are also many who work on in various roles, volunteer locally to help others and generally have a full life. You cannot have a 'one size fits all' policy - after all there are many MPs and members of the House of Lords who would fit into this age group, are they to be banished for months on end too? This is not a police state no matter what Dominic Cummings thinks - this is un-enforceable and unfair.

It is to try to protect the over 70s from dying.  I wouldn't call that unfair.  Few people know with absolute certainty they don't have any underlying health condition.

I am trying to recall the winter of 1968/9 when we had the HK Flu . It was pretty bad . I recall 80000 people died in uk but there was none of the current nonsense . It was a very nasty flu . I recall aged 13 having to look after my parents over Christmas who both got it very badly -not much Christmas spirit that year! I am sure the Government is trying to look after and help us but I question the methodology . To isolate the elder;ly for 4 months is almost inhumane and how on earth will it be enforced . It will surely create a rise in suicides and domestic violence

I doubt very much that it could possibly be enforced. Threat of a hefty fine or prison sentence? No sane person is going to self-isolate for 4 months - it's neither feasible nor practicable.

Sadly, for many it won't make much difference. Many elderly live alone and barely see anyone from one week - or even month - to the next.

AS with pubs,clubs and other venues its advice is not to visit but the closing of such places is not taking place. But like everything covid-19 its a changing position day by day foe the whole world. The over 70s is so far advice and not headlines from the media. I expect it will be advice and no more. Dont forget you can be over 70 and be healthy but your body's defense system is weaker no matter how you live your life. YepMy spelling is bad when i don't look and go over my typing before posting.But glad you found something to have a go back, which says pretty much all in my book.Still,i guess a state imprisonment in homes for over 70s most likely dreamt up and imposed by Dominic Cummings is not worth a response.
