Sainsbury's - avoid!

Just bumped into my neighbour who has been unable to enter Sainsbury's as people are queueing to get in! Bloody 'ell!

Not sure its a case of panic for most but with the week ahead being crucial in what steps are taken today is the obvious day to shop and stock up which will draw people in numbers more than usual. They can only hold so much stock per day and doing it after work in the week is not ideal for many as by then the shelves will be low again. And its harder to get a delivery at the moment. Not so much panic but not being caught out

Most of the online delivery stores have emailed regular customers telling them of the restrictions to what you can buy.  I get Morrison's and Sainsburys deliveries.  I have a regular slot which coincides with my carer being here to take it in and unpack it.  I tried to get this slot for next week and the week after but all of the slots were gone.  I had to get another slot and ask my agency to send my carer at a different time which they could not do because of the lack of staff.  I usually buy enough for two weeks so I get 6 tins of soup etc but now they are restricting us to 3 tins per person.  This is ridiculous because if you need more because you are self isolating you have to go out and get them thereby making self isolation a joke.  Like all the idiots queuing out the doors of Sainsbury's today.  i can guarantee there will be people with the virus who are infectious but do not know yet and they are going to be in the queues with you.  Where has common sense gone?  People wearing masks will be punting their hands up to there face more often to fix their masks so useless.  I don't blame people who are panicking because our governments idea is to let us all get the virus hang the elderly or those with health conditions who are at most risk of complications.  Why are schools and colleges open?  I have always considered Johnson a right wing libertarian but this Herd Immunity concept has only worked in animals yet he wants your family to lose people whilst he can self isolate in one of the PMs grace and favor mansions in the middle of nowhere with armed guards. They lied to us about how many people have it then they lied about how many were dead no wonder people are panicking whereas the truth would allow people to make informed decisions.  I want the names of the people he says are advising him about this because I bet Dominic Cummings is not the only crackpot in the room on those occasions which the Mayor of London is not invited to by the way. Is this why because he would see the mess they are in and tell us. Oh and please can people stop listening to celebrities that are not scientifically qualified to talk about this.  If a football manager can tell people he is not qualified then so can all the others

Caroline as a regular customer buying the same items they should know and make sure they have that available for you and especially those who have carers visiting, expect it all happen to fast for the stores to be well organised

Avoid Morrisons as well, it is a mass-gathering there and battles going on about paper,tissues, pasta and rice, the cue for the tills fills half the shop (tightly packed!),I thought they want to avoid those gatherings. They are not able to test anybody if they are not in hospital. so avoid that rush for things I am sure you can get in weeks time. Stay healthy!

CarolineIf you need help with getting shopping I'm very happy to get it, drop it round and put it away for you.Perhaps we can set up a Local Support Group - anyone else think this is a good idea ?

I went to Ealing Shopping Centre in search of paracetamol capsules  this afternoon.    . ( no luck there )    M and S and Tesco were practically empty . Like their shelves    for loo rolls and medications.  otherwise plenty of food even though it was gone 4 p.m.

This is really strange. I was in Sainsbury's yesterday and although it did seem a bit busy I didn't notice huge queues - although I always use self-checkout so perhaps I missed them.The only explanation I can think of is that because it has a large car park lots of people are driving to it to do bulk purchases. Plus they have recently given over more space to non-staffed tills so it doesn't take that many extra customers for big queues to develop.

I was in Sainsbury’s at about 3.30 ish and it was fairly normal from the point of view of numbers of people. I got everything I wanted . Just lucky I guess .

India has stopped making Paracetamol as the raw ingredients are sourced from China. China isn't making any ingredients at the moment.  The same goes for some popular antibiotics as well.

BernardMany thanks for the information, however I cant take any Meds with Aspirin, therefore I and many others have a big problem, and thanks to all those whove completely wiped out all Paracetamol supplies at Chemists and supermarkets.

Paracetemol is widely available - I was in two shops earlier and they both had ample supply. There is already a control on how many people can buy so bulk purchasing isn't possible therefore shortages are much less likely to occur.

Thank you to everyone who has offered help it's very kind of you.  I managed to get 2 weeks shopping last week and my carer discovered 17 tins of soup in my cupboard!!!  Here is a suggestion for people seeking paracetamol.  Ask for CO Codamol it is kept behind the counter and contains 8 mg of codeine and 500 mg of paracetamol if you have had codeine before it is safe for you to take and stronger than just paracetamol but check with your GP or the online BNF to make sure it does not effect current medications.  I gave up a Morrison's delivery slot last night but I doubt it will still be available now.  I know food banks are having a difficult time getting produce so if anyone can spare anything they should take it to them.
