I do hope that someone has contacted you direct as this is a first, an interesting one off. This Forum has been great at finding lost pets so it would be special if your problem could be resolved and that this iconic VW will soon be back on the road.It will be a generational thing as modern cars are no longer capable of being ‘tinkered’ with. Many years ago I was taught how to check my tyre pressure, change a wheel, check the oil levels and more. Now a days we are excluded from such pleasures. Last year my husband’s new car (ULEZ compliant) was returned to the garage 5 times with the oil level light showing plus once stuck on the side of the A303 for 4 hours waiting for the engineer to arrive with the fancy (expensive) machine which could diagnose the problem and unlock the engine disabler. It took months before a bright spark realised that there was nothing wrong with the car but with the dictated service procedures.During the routine oil service, the oil must first be drained before the pre- measured new oil was put in. There lay the problem. Time and motion dictates how many minutes this should take but in practice it did not allow for the sump to be fully emptied with the result that when the pre-measured oil was put in, the sump was overfilled. This modern beast does not come with a dip stick and therefore no portal from which to suction out the excess. So it is that I am really hopeful that someone will come forward with a solution to your problem. My own car is not much younger than your VW and it is great sadness that next year it will have to go. It is in perfect condition and very well serviced and will be much missed.
