In the past the numbers I have noticed have been in the low hundreds.Recently they are in the thousands ,2261, as I type. What has happened?

I notice that and wondered if it was a mistake.

Nothing gets past you Julian. :)

Yes, I’ve been noticing this too. For example, yesterday at 11.53 there were supposedly 5,489 people visiting this site.

Bots and 'web scrapers' massively boost numbers. I used to moderate a Sony website and we would routinely have close to 1000 'visitors' of which rarely more than 5% were 'real people' the rest were search engines indexing the site and sub-pages.

Maybe someone clicked the drop down that previously filtered out 'insane'?

There are now 3179 people visiting this site and why do I have to keep logging on every few minutes when I haven’t logged off and never do?
Rima Jones ● 2437d
246 now.

"why do I have to keep logging on every few minutes when I haven’t logged off and never do?"do you automatically delete cookies when you exit your web browser? Do you frequently "tidy up"? Anything like this?

Thank you John. This only happens with this forum and was all day yesterday. Every time I tried to reply to a post I had to log on again so in the end I gave up!

Odd. I've put up this reply despite having left the site shortly after I posted first time round. I didn't exit MS Edge though. Fwiw, I do, however, delete history etc. by default when I leave whatever web browser I'm using....

3152 now

I am thinking the first digit can be ignored. so the 3440 now is actually 440 but am happy to be corrected.Maybe the site controller would like to clear up the mystery.

It’s now 3
