Route 94 becomes west London’s first all-electric double-deck bus route.

Has anyone travelled on this yet and if so do you like it?I decided to wait at the bus stop in Bath Road for one to come along and there was a huge difference. So much quieter and no choking fumes. A 272 came along behind it and it was back to filthy!

Certainly quiter and i guess a smoother ride in one way but the good thin is every seat has a USB for your phone or topping up your E-Cig or laptop.

A huge difference, environmentally and comfort-wise.

I agree with all of the above however I sat towards the back on the lower deck and noticed what appeared to be a blast of cold air from air conditioning.I had to move.Good to see it opening windows.

I sat on the upper deck and could hear the air conditioning roaring away. Apart from making an already cold bus colder, doesn't it waste electricity to run the aircon?

Sat on one last week. Very comfortable. What used to be a single seat just behind the driver is now two seats with a much larger window to look out of. However, I am intrigued  as to why there is a sign on the lower deck requesting no standing passengers beyond the wheelchair/buggy area. Does this mean the overall capacity is less than the previous model?

It to do with the camera situated on the back that sends video to a screan for the side door rather than using mirrors. If you stand on the higher deck it blocks the camera view of the door area. Atleast i think so as i did see a camera in the middle of what was the back window of old

One stride forward for the environment and one step back for passenger comfort. The raised seats on the lower deck are much tighter and if you are tall you hit your head on the roof.I guess the price one has to pay for saving the planet.

Luxembourg want to make their public transport better for people and they have. From today trams buses and trains are free even for non residents. Here, pay the highest fares and bang your head.

NB: "Luxembourg want to make their public transport better for people and they have. From today trams buses and trains are free even for non residents."Be fair, it's only two zones from one end of Luxembourg to the other.

Is there space for shopping trolleys and buggies?

All the 94 buses seem to be signed to Oxford Circus.  Does this mean that they have shortened the route.  Terminating below Piccadilly Circus and turning round at Lower Regent Street has always been brilliant for me both ways.  I guess it's back to the underground.

From TfL"OXFORD STREET, W1: Route 94 is on diversion from 03:00 Monday, 24 February until 22:00 Tuesday, 14 April due to Westminster Council roadworks and ongoing emergency gas leak repairs. Buses towards Piccadilly are curtailed to Oxford Circus and will not serve stops from Oxford Circus Station to Charles II Street and from Charles II Street to Selfridges."

It's only temporary, from the TFL website"OXFORD STREET, W1: Route 94 is on diversion from 03:00 Monday, 24 February until 22:00 Tuesday, 14 April due to Westminster Council roadworks and ongoing emergency gas leak repairs. Buses towards Piccadilly are curtailed to Oxford Circus and will not serve stops from Oxford Circus Station to Charles II Street and from Charles II Street to Selfridges."

Nope - there are currently emergency utility repair works in Regent Street. These commenced on 27th Jan with a promise the route would be back to normal on the 24th Feb. On 24th Feb, this message changed to the works completing in late April. Usual emergency response!! So until then, the route is terminating at John Lewis and starting at Marble Arch.

Steve Osborne ● 2439d

Thanks for that information.  Pleased to note that the curtailed route is only temporary.

Actually, West London had all-electric double-deckers nearly ninety years ago. They were called trolleybuses.

Richard Greenhough ● 2438d

They were very good. Silent fast. Have a look on U Tube at Isleworth trolley bus depot. Very interesting inside the depot. We sold a lot to Spain and they lasted a long time there. Now we dont make any buses.

Nicholas Beard ● 2438d

I think the all-electric 94 bus was manufactured in the UK by Alexander Dennis, albeit using some Chinese technology.
