Chantal Brotherton-Ratcliffe gives the latest talk for The Arts Society Ealing

This month’s lecture from The Arts Society Ealing is entitled ‘Raphael, A God Amongst Painters’ and will be given by Chantal Brotherton-Ratcliffe.
The talk takes place on Monday 23 May at 7.30pm at St Barnabas Church Hall, Pitshanger Lane (W5 1QG).
Raphael’s is one of the most famous names in art history and until the late 19th century to emulate him was the goal for most artists. Yet today he is not as well-known as this might suggest. This lecture asks what is the magic of Raphael? It explores what he achieved, and looks, as if for the first time, at the beauty and grace of his work. It also examines his astonishing ability to grow and transform himself over the years of his career. His early death leaves us wondering – had he lived, what would have come next?
Chantal Brotherton-Ratcliffe has taught at Sotheby's Institute of Art on the MA in Fine and Decorative Arts since 1989. Having also trained as a painting conservator, she brings an understanding of the making and the physical painting to her lectures and study sessions.
Visitors are welcome to attend at £8 per lecture (reduced to £3 for students). Payment can be made by cash on the evening or in advance by contacting spsecretarytase@gmail.com.
The Arts Society Ealing belongs to the large umbrella organisation, The Arts Society, previously known as the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS), which was founded in 1968. The local Society, which has a membership of around 140, is now one of the 388 member societies of The Arts Society that have been formed throughout the United Kingdom, in parts of Europe and in Australia and New Zealand.
