New Hope For Ealing's Cinema

But future of the town centre site still to be resolved

There's a glimmer of hope that Ealing's derelict cinema could still rise from the rubble.

A new planning application has been submitted to Ealing Council and officials are currently in discussion regarding the future of the site.

The former UGC on the Broadway was demolished in February 2009 (apart from the frontage) to make way for a new 16 screen cinema but work never began and the remains of the building - opposite the Town Hall - have been left boarded up.

Four months ago Ealing Council began legal action to try and force the owners, Empire Cinema,to complete the work within a reasonable period.

Today a Council spokesperson told us:

'' A Completion Notice was served by the Council in June 2010.

''The owners have lodged an appeal against the Notice which will be heard at public inquiry once a date has been set.

''At present the Council are in discussions regarding the future of the site with agents for the owners .

"Another planning application has been received for the site and will be considered through the usual planning process."
