Nearly 100 short films to be shown across four venues
This is the fifth year the event has been held

The fifth Ealing Film Festival looks set to be the biggest ever with a record number of submission.
Over 458 short films have been whittled down to just under one hundred which will be shown between 25-30 November at four venues in the borough: Ealing Picturehouse, Ealing Project, ActOne Cinema, and Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery.
The festival’s mission continues to be to shine a spotlight on new filmmaking talent and entries have come from across the UK and from more than forty countries around the world…from Australia to Argentina, Mexico to Macedonia, Peru to Pakistan, and Uganda to Ukraine.
The organisers take particular pleasure in the number of entries from students at colleges and universities around the world including MetFilm School and UWL here in Ealing.
For the benefit of filmmakers in other parts of the world, unable to travel to Ealing, the films are also being screened on the Vimeo online platform. And viewers will be invited to vote for the People’s Choice Award.
Since launching in 2020, when the event had to be held online because of the pandemic, the festival has grown rapidly. It shows short films in more than a dozen different categories, including drama and comedy, sci-fi and horror, animation and documentaries.
This year, the festival is featuring a panel discussion at Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery about the growing impact of artificial intelligence on cinema, a hot topic in the film industry.
Andrew Sumner, Susan Stein, David Leach & Simon Winstanley
Four festival judges, all industry professionals, will be debating the pros and cons of using AI to make films for the cinema. There will also be a screening of experimental and animated films at this event.
As part of the Green Planet screening that opens this year’s festival, Beavers in Paradise, the documentary about the reintroduction of the animals to Greenford, will be shown.
The festival judges, many of whom live in and around the borough of Ealing, include professionals who have themselves won some of the biggest prizes in the world of film and TV, including Oscar, Emmy, Bafta and RTS trophies.
