Contingency funds running low and support is needed
A Crowdfunding appeal has been set up by a Hanwell zookeeper to help the animals during the current crisis.
Easter would have normally been a very busy time for the popular zoo based at the Bunny Park but its closure has caused financial hardship.
Head zookeeper Beau-Jensen McCubbin writes:
In these uncertain times we have been working hard at Hanwell Zoo to keep life as normal as possible for the 500+ animals under our care. We rely heavily on our supporters and visitors to fund our many conservation, education and community projects, but today with a very heavy heart we are asking for help to care for our animals.
We have made extreme cutbacks and the staff have been working harder than ever, but we will always have feed bills to pay in order to keep the animals healthy. We had built up a small contingency fund however we could never have imagined the current situation unfolding and our reserves are running low. The Easter holidays usually make up a huge portion of our annual income, and it's loss will affect us with difficulty for some time to come.
We realise that these are difficult times for everyone but if you can support us, no matter how big or small or even just a pledge to come and visit us when we re open, it would go along way to ensuring a thriving Hanwell Zoo in the months to come. Our staff and animals are all currently very safe and well. Your continued support is so valued by us, and we want you all to stay safe during this troubling time.
