The opening of the new Morrisons Daily near Turnham Green Underground station has been pushed back once again, marking the third delay to the long-awaited convenience store.

The unit, on the site of the former Turnham Green Art & Craft shop, had originally been advertised to residents as opening in late March, before being revised to May. Morrisons head office is now indicating that the store is expected to open “early June”, though staff working on site say they are aiming for 8 June. It had earlier been hoped that the new shop would open just as the Tesco Express on the High Road closed.

A Morrisons spokesperson said, “Due to necessary property works the store is now expected to open early June. This will be subject to the work being completed.”

The store is being run as a franchise, operated by Liquorify Ltd — the same company behind a Morrisons Daily in High Wycombe. The franchisee secured a licence from Hounslow Council in January, allowing alcohol sales from 6am to 11pm daily.

The 1,660 sq ft ground-floor unit has been empty since June 2024, when the art and craft shop closed after more than twenty years on the Terrace. The property was marketed at £90,000 per year, with a rateable value of £30,500. A business connected to the former owners has since reopened on Acton Lane, near the Sainsbury’s car park entrance.

Work on the unit appears to be progressing with equipment and shelving already in place but the store branding has not been put in place.

Once open, the Turnham Green branch is expected to stock the standard Morrisons Daily range, including fresh and frozen food, household essentials, toiletries and newspapers. Plans submitted to the council show investment in security and compliance systems, including CCTV, an electronic refusals register for age-restricted products, and till-prompt safeguards. A mezzanine level will provide additional storage.

The new store forms part of Morrisons’ wider push to expand its small-format convenience estate. The supermarket has been rapidly growing its Morrisons Daily network through franchise partnerships and has set a target of reaching 2,000 convenience stores nationwide by the end of this year.
