The new facility will be in the former premises of Sofas by Saxon
June 15, 2025
Details of plans for a large animal health centre on Chiswick High Road have been revealed as part of a planning application.
They show that Mars Veterinary Health Group, a subsidiary of the confectionary company, is proposing to open the facility at the former premises of Sofas by Saxon at the junction of Chiswick Road and Chiswick High Road (492-496 Chiswick High Road).
The designs submitted with the application indicate the arrival of what appears to be an animal health spa, possibly specialising in dogs, in the 4,200 sq ft unit. The facility will include two grooming stations with a washing/drying station as well as two hydrotherapy rooms. There will be a gym and a treadmill which the plans submitted with the application appear to indicate will be for dogs. An area will be set aside for gait analysis and there are a number of consulting rooms.
The application is for permission to put up LED screens and other signage on the outside of the property.
The same corporation also owns the Village Vet chain which has four branches in West London including the one at 113 Chiswick High Road.
In addition, The Mars Veterinary Health Group operates the London Vets Specialist, a newly built animal hospital on Chancellors Road in Hammersmith and it appears likely that the new High Road facility would make referrals to this unit which has three surgical suites. It also has separate ICU, isolation, and recovery wards and a comprehensive diagnostics suite which includes high-field MRI and CT, X-ray, ultrasound suite, cardiac suite, endoscopic procedures room and an in-house laboratory.
Mars Veterinary Health is a global network of pet healthcare businesses owned by Mars, Incorporated, the same family-owned company best known for brands like M&M's, Pedigree, and Whiskas. It operates as part of Mars Petcare, one of the world's largest pet care companies which employs over 70,000 veterinary professionals.
Chiswick has seen an increase in the number of pet related businesses recently including the expansion of DogTown on the High Road, the arrival of Creature Comforts and the opening of a pet supply store on Turnham Green Terrace. This has offset the closure of Chiswick Pets on Devonshire Road although that business continues to offer a pet grooming service from Ellesmere Road.
