Avanti Restaurant Opens In Bedford Corner

Taken over former Melody premises offering tapas and Mediterranean dishes

A mediterranean restaurant has opened on the site of the former Melody cafe at Bedford Corner, South Parade.

Avanti Bistro will offer tapas as well as classic dishes from France, Spain, Italy and Greece. It also has pizza on the menu.

Avanti owner Hashim Gabbi Khidyer said that he believed there was a niche for a tapas bar in Chiswick. The restaurant would also have a daily specials menu with dishes from a particular country.

Avanti will also offer thin-crust pizza. It will be open for breakfast and brunch from 8 a.m. with paninis, burgers and sandwiches.

There will be a 'Happy Hour' from 3-7pm with free tapas for alcohol and cocktails purchased.

Mr. Khadyer has been in the restaurant business for over 35 years, and has been associated with companies which ran restaurants in Ealing, which are now dissolved. He was also involved with La Toscana in Chiswick for nearly a year. He said he was now concentrating on his new venture.

He has also received a licence from Ealing Council from 10am until midnight from Monday to Thursday as well as Sunday and until 12.30am on Friday and Saturday. Alcohol to be served until half an hour before closure. No objections were made to the application which was published in the Ealing Gazette.

Melody Café on Bedford Corner closed after bailiffs took possession of the site late last year. the premises

The café was a source of controversy throughout its short life. The operators installed an outside gazebo which split local opinion and had to be taken down after Ealing Council had turned down a retrospective application to retain the covered eating area outside the premises.

The new owner said he will have al fresco dining at tables outside the restaurant but has no plans for a gazebo.
