Council Rejects Chiswick Moran's Expansion Plans

Hotel to appeal claiming £10m scheme would mean more jobs for local people

Hounslow Council has turned down Chiswick Moran's £10m scheme to extend the hotel.

Plans included demolishing existing buildings at the rear of the hotel and building an extension to house 81 additional bedrooms along with conference and events facilities and underground parking for 90 cars.

Director Tommy Moran told ChiswickW4.com, "We are disappointed and somewhat perplexed at the council's refusal of our application without even affording us the opportunity to present before committee.

"Since opening the Hotel a little over two years ago it has been an unequivocal success and has been whole heartedly welcomed into the local community. Such has been the popularity of the Hotel to date that we took the step of purchasing the adjacent vacant site in order to expand our current facilities and bring more guests and further investment into the area.

"In a time of considerable economic uncertainty we feel that our proposal, which would add up to 80 jobs to the area, is a massive vote of confidence in Chiswick"

He continud, "We find the Council's attitude particularly surprising in view of the remarkable level of general acceptance (not to say support) within the local community who clearly see the hotel as an asset and would prefer it to a less neighbourly industrial use.

"We are confident that we have the right scheme and will continue to press ahead to realise it as good for the area and good for business. We are currently taking advice on the correct response to the council's decision and remain committed to finding a way of delivering this proposal in as timely a fashion as possible."
