Tennis legend Stefan Edberg puts fans through their paces at The Riverside
Tennis legend, Stefan Edberg, put Esporta racquets members through their paces at Chiswick's Riverside Health and Racquets Club, in an event that was supported by the world’s number one brand in tennis, Wilson.
Stefan led a number of coaching sessions for Esporta members on Sunday 28th June who had won their chance to play with the double winner of Wimbledon in a prize draw.
Participants were treated to a variety of on court sessions including cardio tennis, coaching from Stefan and tennis professionals, as well as an opportunity to ask the former world number one questions.
Stefan is no stranger to The Riverside, he was a member for more than three years when he lived in London. He said, “It’s nice to come back here – I know the club very well and have played here many times. I lived in London– the UK was a big part of my success.”
Stefan was inevitably asked by members for his thoughts on the 2009 Wimbledon Championships and, in particular, the prospects for Britain’s Andy Murray.
“We’re going into the second week, which is when the tournament really begins for the top players," he said. "Roger Federer is coming off the back of winning the French Open and is looking very relaxed. The dream final would be Roger and Andy Murray. Andy Murray definitely has a chance this year, but Roger Federer is a very special player.”
Esporta Director of Racquets, Jo Thomas-Kemp said, “It’s great to welcome Stefan back to the club where he spent a lot of time as a member in the late 1990s. Stefan is one of the greats of tennis – two Wimbledon titles, two Australian Open titles, as well as two US Open titles. It was great that he came down and showed members a little taste of what made him so special. He’s an incredibly friendly man and really couldn’t do enough for people on court.”
Stefan also presented Esporta Racquets Manager of the Year, Mark Jackson from the Hampshire Health & Racquets Club, with an engraved racquet courtesy of Wilson.
