The Turnham Green Piazza has a new piece of public art to view on the railway embankment.

Abundance London's policy of rotating the 'W4th Plinth' between the works receiving the highest number of votes from the public from a number of shortlisted works in 2023 continues with the selection of ‘Paris Study No 1’ by American artist Philip Michael Wolfson which was unveiled on Friday (30 May). It shows an abstract representation of a map of Paris.

The artist was the former head of design for the architectural practice of Zaha Hadid and describes his work as being influenced by constructivism and futurism. He works in various media and has had designs on display at galleries across the world as well as exhibiting at international art fairs.

‘Sky’ by Sally Gatie had been a popular resident of the ‘W4th Plinth’ since it was unveiled last September.

It pictured a woman with a blue sky and clouds background and was one of the top picks of the public vote for which there were 500 submissions.

Abundance London is a voluntary organisation with charitable aims, founded in 2010 which works with local schools, volunteers, businesses, community groups and local government, harvesting surplus fruit, planting orchards, flowers and trees, trying to reconnect people living in the city with nature.

The ‘W4th Plinth’ initiative, which has been running for six years, is a collaborative effort between Abundance London and local artists.

The first ever display was in 2019 with pop art master Sir Peter Blake’s artwork The Chiswick Empire and since then new pieces from both emerging talents and established creators have been displayed.
