Plan to build centre for people with mental health problems at the site abandoned
The One Housing Group, which last year withdrew an application to demolish a Victorian house in Sutton Court Road to build a residential centre for people with mental health problems, is planning another development on the site.
This time the group has formed a subsidiary, Baycroft, which is planning to redevelop 23, Sutton Court Road as a small, high-quality senior living development, comprising nine homes to be sold to over-55s only. Baycroft has been set up to bring forward 'senior living properties' for private sale.
The existing house on the site
An exhibition was held last week at Chiswick Town Hall for the local community and stakeholders. The development would mean the demolition of the Victorian house.
Last year, over 200 locals in Barrowgate Road and surrounding streets objected to the plans for the mental health facility, saying the house was of heritage value.
The historical interest in this site has been considerable and a heritage report has been compiled by neighbours championing the retention and conservation of this building which sits at the gateway to the Wellesley Road Conservation area.
The West Chiswick and Gunnersbury Society and other local groups had rejected the idea of the house being demolished saying it would have a negative impact on the character of the area.
