Labour Party's Local Election Candidates Announced
Includes a lawyer, student activist, cycling campaigner and retired Army officer
The Labour Party (Hounslow) branch has officially announced its local election candidates for the three Chiswick wards.
Chiswick Riverside
Tom
Dragicevic; Tom has lived in Chiswick for 53 years and has a
background in civil engineering. He is particularly concerned with schools
and housing.Now semi-retired, Tom hopes
that his professional insight into technical issues from roadworks to
waste disposal will be a
great asset to the Council.
Sally Malin: Sally has forty years experience working as a social worker, and is a Chiswick resident.Her working life has included chairing Barnet Primary Care Trust, a Fellowship at the London School of Economics, and many initiatives to support the most vulnerable in society.
Rakib
Ruhel: Rakib runs
a business in Brentford and is active in many community groups. Rakib
is a journalist and the founder of GBnews24, an online media outlet with
an active global readership of 2.5 million. He has lived in Chiswick since
1998. He also runs a
business which provides training for young people locally in restaurant
cuisine and cultural
awareness
Chiswick Homefields
Nick Fitzpatrick: Neil is a Homefields resident and a lawyer in a global law firm. He believes it is time for Labour councillors rather than disgruntled Tories in a Labour run local authority. Nick, of Upham Park Road, is committed to social justice and mobility.
Caoimhe
Hale: A student at Manchester University, Caoimhe has been a
Labour Party campaigner since her early teens. She is an active campaigner
for
the NHS and mental health and a lifelong resident of Chiswick Homefields,
currently
completing her undergraduate studies in English literature.
David Waller: David is one of the founders of the Brentford and Hounslow Stop Heathrow Expansion group and a campaigner for the environment and protecting public services. He began his career as a journalist reporting for local papers in the area before moving onto national newspapers
Turnham Green ward
Peter Burgess: a teacher, Peter wants to promote Labour values, particularly building stronger public services. Peter is a secondary school teacher at a state comprehensive in Hammersmith and previously taught in Ealing and at Further Education colleges
Ruth Mayorcas: Ruth is a well-known campaigner for safer cycling and is in favour of the CS9. Ruth is a former BBC Associate Producer who now devotes her time to community causes. She volunteers for Hounslow Youth Offending Service, is part of the working group on the future of Gunnersbury Station, and was a campaigner for creating safer routes for families to walk and cycle
John Stroud-Turp: John has lived in Turnham Green for 24 years. He is hoping, if elected, to ensure that long term local issues are addressed with sustainable solutions, not short term fixes. He is involved with the Action Team at Gunnersbury Station. He recently retired from the Army after 35 years service, and works as a consultant and trustee, as well as being a Magistrate. He is also the Secretary for the Gunnersbury Station Action Group.
