Footballers visit the children's ward at West Middlesex
A group of people who ply their trade in red and white have already been to West Middlesex University Hospital bearing gifts this week. Eight Brentford First Team players spread a little festive cheer at the Children’s Ward at the Isleworth hospital. (pictured above with the staff)
And Brentford’s B Team squad will also be making a trip to the hospital in the run-up to Christmas. The visit has become a tradition with gifts collected by Brentford Football Club handed over to children who have to spend Christmas in hospital.
Brentford captain John Egan and World Cup bound Denmark international Andreas Bjelland were joined by Yoann Barbet, Sergi Canós, Luke Daniels, Lewis Macleod, Josh McEachran and Chris Mepham in visiting the hospital.. And Brentford’s B Team will also be paying a visit, donating more gifts, signing autographs and posing for pictures. The donated gifts came from supporters, staff and players and, as usual, there was a large collection of toys handed over.
Bees captain John Egan said: ““It is always nice to give something back. There are a lot of kids in here who aren’t well and it is good for us to come and put a smile on their faces, even if it is just for five or ten minutes. I think the lads quite enjoyed doing it which is the main thing and it is always nice to give something back.”
Rasvana Akram, manager on the West Middlesex University Hospital children’s unit, who was there to greet the players, said: “We are so grateful to Brentford Football Club, and especially the players, for coming to visit us and spreading some festive cheer to our patients and staff. Leading up to their visit the staff in the department have been really excited and when the players arrived they were so good with the children and their families, spending time chatting with them and giving presents out. It really brightened up the day for everyone.”
