St Nicholas Church in Chiswick continues its commitment to nurturing emerging musical talent with a Sunday afternoon recital on Sunday 21 June at 3pm, featuring trombonist Jonathan Stevens and pianist Oliver Cuttriss.

The concert forms part of the church’s ongoing mission to support young performers, with all profits dedicated to developing local musical opportunities.

The programme pairs major Romantic works with 20th-century repertoire, opening with Henri Tomasi’s Concerto for Trombone, a vivid and expressive showpiece that has become a cornerstone of the modern trombone repertoire. Stevens will also perform Alexandre Guilmant’s Morceau Symphonique, a lyrical favourite among brass players.

The duo will present Clara Schumann’s Three Romances in an arrangement by Emily White, offering a rare chance to hear these intimate violin pieces reimagined for trombone and piano. The programme also includes Johannes Brahms’s Four Serious Songs, bringing depth and emotional weight to the afternoon.

Stevens, currently completing a Master of Performance at the Royal College of Music, is rapidly establishing himself as a versatile orchestral and chamber musician, with recent performances alongside the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and leading festival ensembles. Cuttriss, a sought-after London-based pianist and accompanist, brings a wide-ranging musical background that spans competitions, masterclasses, theatre work and professional collaborations.

Tickets are £10 on the door (students £5), with tea and cake available afterwards for £5. St Nicholas Church, Church Street, W4 2PJ.
