St Nicholas Church in Chiswick will host an afternoon of chamber music on Sunday 15 March at 3pm, as clarinettist William Hammond and pianist George Herbert present a varied programme ranging from Romantic masterworks to virtuosic showpieces.

The concert, held at the historic church on Church Street beside the Thames, showcases two emerging artists currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music.

Hammond, supported by the Margaret Booth Award, the Boise Scholarship and the Charlotte Fraser Foundation, is building a growing reputation as both a soloist and ensemble player. His recent performances include work with the BBC Concert Orchestra and English Touring Opera, as well as a “Very Highly Commended” award in the Buffet Crampon Clarinet Prize. Herbert, a scholarship pianist and member of the Academy Song Circle, is developing an international profile with upcoming recitals at Wigmore Hall, the Salle Cortot in Paris and venues in Stockholm.

Their programme at St Nicholas spans four contrasting works: Reinecke’s Introduzione ed allegro appassionato, Brahms’s lyrical Clarinet Sonata No.2, Joseph Horovitz’s 1981 Clarinet Sonatina, and Alamiro Giampieri’s sparkling Carnival of Venice variations.

Tickets are £10 on the door (students £5), with tea and cake available afterwards for £5.

All proceeds support young local musicians at St Nicholas Church, with additional sponsorship from Charlotte Fraser.

St Nicholas Church is at Church Street, Chiswick, W4 2PJ.
