William Hammond is to be joined by Richard Shaw to perform a programme of works linked by ideas of memory, fantasy, and reflection - “Rêveries: A French Clarinet Recital”.
The afternoon concert takes place at 3pm on Sunday 15 June at St. Nicholas Church

William Hammond is a clarinettist currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He supported by the Margaret Booth Award, Boise Scholarship, and the Charlotte Fraser Foundation, which allows him to fully apply himself to his studies. As both a soloist and chamber musician, he is establishing a varied and expansive career, performing repertoire ranging from the classical canon to contemporary works. In February, he was awarded “Very Highly Commended” in the Buffet Crampon Clarinet Prize, adjudicated by Julian Bliss.
He has performed with the BBC Concert Orchestra, English Touring Opera, and is on the extra list for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Also, he workedwith Sir Mark Elder in the RAM Symphony Orchestra, performing Strauss’ gigantic Also Sprach Zarathustra and Till Eulenspiegel in November 2024. Equally at home in chamber settings, he is a founding member of the Regent’s Wind Quintet, formed at the Academy, who recently placed in the RAM Wind Ensemble Prize.
Richard Shaw has given many broadcasts for Britain’s BBC Radio 3 include duo performances with violinists such as James Ehnes, Viviane Hagner, Leonidas Kavakos, So-Ock Kim, Pekka Kuusisto, Vadim Repin, Ittai Shapira and Nikolaj Znaider, cellists Matthew Barley, Narek Hakhnazaryan, Richard Harwood and Li Wei, Jean Ferrandis (flute), Nicholas Daniel (oboe), Martin Fröst (clarinet) and Singers Nicole Cabelle, Jennifer Smith, Ailish Tynan, Alice Coote, Ruby Philogene, Jean Rigby, Anna Larsson, Robin Blaze, Michael Chance, Paul Agnew, Hal Cazalet, Kurt Streit, Matthew Rose, Jonathan Veira and Robert Pomokov. He has performed with an entire alphabet of international flautists, including András Adorján, Robert Aitken, Pierre-Yves Artaud, Jeanne Baxtresser, Christine Beard, Sharon Bezaly, Sebastian Bell, William Bennett, Denis Bouriakov, Sarah Brooke, Rachel Brown, Wissam Boustany and on to Adam Walker, Elizabeth Walker, Emma Williams, Trevor Wye, Matthias Ziegler and Jacques Zoon.
Tickets cost £10 on the door by cash or card with students paying £5 and you can stay afterwards for tea and cake for an extra £5.
