The series of afternoon concerts at St. Nicholas Church in Chiswick continues with a performance featuring flautist Ruby Howells and pianist Richard Shaw.

The programme features pieces from Bach, Messiaen, Karg-Elert and Widor and takes place on Sunday 19 January at 3pm.

Ruby Howells has performed twice at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms, as well as in numerous engagements at the Barbican Centre and the Royal Festival Hall, she has additionally worked with Sir Mark Elder and John Wilson as part of the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, and Edward Gardner in the London Philharmonic Orchestra's side-by-side scheme with RAM.

She was the British Flute Society’s Young Performer of 2018, and woodwind winner at National Eisteddfod of Wales in 2019 and 2023.

An advocate for music education, she is an assistant flute tutor for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

Richard Shaw specialises in chamber music and accompaniment and has performed extensively in Britain and abroad. He is Staff Accompanist at the Royal Academy of Music and his recent CDs on the Deux-Elles label include music by the French flautist Phillipe Gaubert, with flautist Kathryn Thomas. Richard is currently writing a biography of the distinguished Russian mezzo-soprano, Maria Karinskaya (1882-1942), following his discovery of an unknown 400-page Russian manuscript based on Karinskaya’s lost memoirs.

Tickets cost £10 on the door or £5 for students payable by card. They can also be purchased in advance online. You can stay afterwards for tea and cake at a cost of £5.

All profits go to provide scholarships to support young choristers to sing at St Nicholas Church.
