3RD CHISWICK SCOUT GROUP APPEAL BOLSTERED BY CONCERT 3rd Chiswick Scout Group 2002 Development Appeal
The concert was put together by local residents Paul Lindsell, a former choral scholar of St John's College, Cambridge and Alexandra Cornforth who were joined by five other professional performers including Sandy Burnett, the well-known conductor and Radio 3 presenter and Bob Bryan of internationally renowned vocal group Cantabile. This upbeat miscellany included numbers ranging from Fats Waller to Robbie Williams. Peter Wolton the Appeal co-ordinator was delighted by the evening, "Everyone, audience, performers and organisers have had a memorable evening." Scout Leader, Shaun Joynson concurred, "In 24 years of scouting, I have never attended such a well organised and enjoyable fund raising event." Peter Wolton continued: "St Michael & All Angels is rapidly becoming one of the great cultural centres of West London and we are very grateful to Father Kevin Morris and the Parochial Church Council for allowing us to use this splendid Norman Shaw church. We are also pleased that in Christian Aid week, a quarter of the evening's proceeds will go to this important international charity, as well as benefiting the scout group. The scouts are one of the key local organisations for pulling the local community together and tonight, working with St Michael's has been an embodiment of this. We have now raised £10,000 out of the £65,000 target which is needed to expand and upgrade our scout centre in Wilson Walk. There is still a long way to go but with this level of local support we are confident we will hit our target."
