You are invited to step into the solemn beauty of Great Lent at a special free concert blending Slavonic sacred music with Russian poetry.

The Romanoff Foundation Choir will perform Evening of Repentance on Sunday 8 March at 2pm, hosted at the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God and the Holy Royal Martyrs at 57 Harvard Road, as part of the choir’s 2026 UK tour.

The event has been organised with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Irenei, and is intended as a reflective journey through the spiritual themes of Lent — repentance, hope, humility and renewal.

Directed by Alexander Yashkin Daszkiewicz, the programme will showcase some of the most profound works in the ancient Slavonic choral tradition, interwoven with readings of Russian poetry that explore the inner life and emotional depth associated with the Lenten season. Organisers say the afternoon aims to offer “a moment of stillness and contemplation” at a time of year when many Christian communities prepare for Easter through prayer and reflection.

Although the concert is free to attend, it is also a fundraising event, with donations welcomed to support the choir’s ongoing work and future performances.

The Romanoff Foundation Choir has built a reputation for its rich, resonant sound and its commitment to preserving and sharing sacred music rarely heard in mainstream concert settings.

The organisers say all are welcome, regardless of background or faith, and hope the event will provide a meaningful cultural experience for anyone interested in sacred music, poetry or the spiritual heritage of the Eastern Christian tradition.
