Hogarth Singers Invites New Members for Autumn Term

Choir is preparing for a joint concert with the London Lawyers' Chorus

Hogarth Singers are inviting new voices to join them for a fresh season of choral music in West London. The friendly Chiswick-based choir resumes rehearsals on Monday 7 September at 7.30pm, returning to its long-standing home at St Michael and All Angels, Bath Road, W4.

This autumn marks a particularly exciting moment for the ensemble, as their Music Director, Rupert Gill, has recently taken up the baton at the London Lawyers' Chorus. The two choirs will come together for a joint concert on Saturday 28 November, to be held at St Gabriel’s Church, Warwick Square, Pimlico.

The programme brings together major works of the 19th and early 20th centuries, beginning with Josef Rheinberger’s Mass in E-flat (Cantus Missae), a double-choir masterpiece admired for its clarity and serenity. The combined choirs will also perform William Walton’s Coronation Te Deum, a ceremonial work of bold colour and grandeur.

Alongside these centrepieces, Hogarth Singers will present a selection of shorter choral gems:

  • Mendelssohn – Lauda Sion (First Movement)
  • Schubert – The Lord is my Shepherd, in the SATB arrangement by Stainer
  • Rachmaninov – Bogoroditsye Dyevo
  • Rheinberger – Abendlied

Founded in the early 1980s as an offshoot of IBM’s Meistersingers choir, the Hogarth Singers have grown into one of Chiswick’s most respected chamber choirs. Now a registered charity, the group is dedicated to promoting choral music and public education in the art and science of music. With a membership of around 50–60 singers, the choir performs a wide repertoire of sacred and secular works, from Renaissance motets to contemporary compositions.

The choir rehearses weekly at St Michael and All Angels Church and typically presents three concerts each year, alongside social events and occasional outreach performances. The atmosphere is described as friendly and inclusive, with no formal audition required, though new members are invited to sing for the Music Director. The choir particularly welcomes younger singers and offers discounted rates for under-25s and new tenors and basses.
