The Hogarth Singers to Perform Pieces from Haydn and Brahms

Harmony is the theme of the choir's autumn concert

The Hogarth Singers

The Hogarth Singers will present its Autumn concert with a programme, titled Harmony, featuring Haydn’s Harmoniemesse and “How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place” from Brahms’ A German Requiem, performed under the baton of Musical Director Rupert Gill and accompanied by The Hogarth Players.

Haydn’s final mass is known for its rich orchestration and expressive choral writing, while Brahms’ A German Requiem offers a deeply human meditation on comfort and mortality. The selected movement is one of Brahms’ most beloved choral pieces, often performed independently for its lyrical beauty and spiritual warmth.

It is taking place on Saturday 15 November at 7.30pm, returning to the choir’s regular venue at St Michael and All Angels Church, (W4 1TT).

Doors open at 6.45pm, and tickets are available in advance via hogarthsingers.uk, by phone on 07341 413884, or at the door. Prices are £15 in advance (£13 concessions) and £16 on the door (£14 concessions), with free entry for under-16s.

A Family Carols Concert is also planned on Saturday 13 December at 6.00pm.

Founded in the early 1980s as an offshoot of IBM’s Meistersingers choir, the Hogarth Singers have grown into one of Chiswick’s most respected chamber choirs. Now a registered charity, the group is dedicated to promoting choral music and public education in the art and science of music. With a membership of around 50–60 singers, the choir performs a wide repertoire of sacred and secular works, from Renaissance motets to contemporary compositions.

The choir rehearses weekly at St Michael and All Angels Church and typically presents three concerts each year, alongside social events and occasional outreach performances. The atmosphere is described as friendly and inclusive, with no formal audition required, though new members are invited to sing for the Music Director. The choir particularly welcomes younger singers and offers discounted rates for under-25s and new tenors and basses.
