Chiswick Pier Trust hosting trip to mark 80th anniversary of war's end in Europe

The Chiswick Pier Trust has organised a VE Day Commemoration Cruise to Westminster. Like its ever-popular Mother’s Day Cruise, this event is expected to sell out so you are advised to book your tickets soon.
While VE Day itself is on 8 May, to support this year’s 80th anniversary, the bank holiday Monday 5 May has been officially dedicated to community celebrations.
Whilst sailing down the river there will be a commentary including information about the impact the war had on London and the damage that was caused. Included is a two-course buffet lunch. Drinks will be available to purchase from the bar on board.
The boat sets sail at 1.30 p.m. with embarkation from 1.00 p.m, it will be returning to Chiswick Pier after about two hours depending on tides..
Tickets cost £46 per person and can be booked by calling Chiswick Pier on 020 8742 2713.
Before this event, this year’s University Boat Race takes place on Sunday 13 April and Chiswick Pier is, once again, claiming to be the best place for all the family to watch the event.
The series of contests between Oxford and Cambridge start with the women's race at 1:20pm and finishing with the men's at 2:21pm. Between these two races will be the women’s reserve crews followed by the men’s reserve crews.
Generally crews pass Chiswick Pier at around 11 minutes after start times. You can watch the crews power upstream from Chiswick Eyot, past the Pier and through to the final bend before Barnes Bridge.
These events are organised by the Chiswick Pier Trust which works to engage people with the River Thames. It provides access to the Thames and supports major river events, as well as organising events of its own.
