Chiswick Pier Trust’s monthly ‘Talks by the Thames’ programme continues in December with artist Charles Leon, who will present a talk about his experiences sketching views from the Thames Path.

Copies of Charles’s new book ‘The Thames Path Sketch Journal’, featuring illustrated records and anecdotes about his journeys between Hampton Court and Tower Bridge will be on sale. There will be a special 10% discount for buyers on the night.

The talk is at The Pier House, Corney Reach Way, (W4 2UG) from 7pm to 8:30pm on Tuesday 17 December.

The draft ‘Talks by the Thames’ programme for 2025 is now available. Talks are usually at 7pm on a Tuesday evening, with doors open at The Pier House from 6.30pm and refreshments on sale.

25 February – Poet and Author Tom Chivers (‘London Clay’) talks about his current 'PhD in Mudlarking' with the Thames Discovery Programme

25 March – Lizzy Bunker from Community Bluescapes presents a talk on current work being done to build local flood resilience along the Thames

29 April – we welcome back Mary Tester with an update on the Seal Watch project

27 May – Chiswick Pier houseboat resident Johnny Wright presents an illustrated talk on ‘Literature and the Thames’

The talks programme takes a break for the Summer and returns on 30 September with Adam Taylor who presents a talk on ‘Islands of the Medway Estuary’

Other dates in 2025 to mark on your calendar including Mothering Sunday (30 March) when the Trust will be hosting a cruise upriver to Teddington Lock and back when the family can get together and have a full afternoon tea on board. Departing from Chiswick Pier at 3pm. More details to come soon.

The Oxford and Cambridge boat race is on Sunday 13 April, starting with the women's race at 13:20 and finishing with the men's at 14:20. Chiswick Pier is a prime vantage spot from which to watch the race with the added bonus of a choice of hot food, Fullers bar and refreshments all on sale.

These events are organised by the Chiswick Pier Trust which works to engage people with the River Thames. It provides access to the Thames and supports major river events, as well as organising events of its own.
