Marathon Walk of Hope

26 miles along the river to raise money for children’s charity

Hope for Children will be holding their bi-annual walk on Saturday 20th June and are looking for more marathon walkers to join them.

HOPE is a charity that works primarily through voluntary efforts to assist children who suffer through being handicapped, orphaned, poor and exploited in developing countries, and in the UK. Projects to be supported include:

Uganda HOPE is directly assisting in communities within the slums of Namuwongo, Kamapala, where over 10,000 displaced people live in abject poverty. There is little or no running water, no toilets and no electricity. Funds from The Walk of Hope will help fund medical assistance, pre-school education, nutritional meals, and outreach work with families and sponsoring of children.

Zimbabwe many thousands of people are in desperate need of medical attention and food. The Cholera outbreak continues to spread made worse by poor water supplies and poor sanitation. Your funds will help provide assistance in communities that have fallen through the net of support of the large international charities. Your fundraising efforts will literally save lives.

The route starts and ends in Chiswick and is mostly along the river Thames and around Richmond Park. There is a £20/person non-refundable registration fee to register and receive your walk pack. Please send a cheque in the amount of £20.00 payable to HOPE for Children to Nadia Howell, 28 Rusthall Ave, London W4 1BP. The walk pack includes a HOPE T-Shirt. This money also covers drinks and snacks at the start and 2 Hope organised stops at 5.2 miles and 16 miles.

There is also a mini marathon (5.2 miles) on the same day starting in Chiswick and ending at Petersham Gate, Richmond Park with stops at 1.6 miles and 3.8 miles. The cost of registration for this is £10.00/person.
